Summary
We are seeking a skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead new product development and sustaining engineering initiatives for industrial machinery. In this role, you will bridge the gap between initial concept design and full-scale manufacturing, collaborating closely with clients, cross-functional production teams, and junior engineering staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Design & Drafting: Create detailed 3D models and production-ready drafting layouts for new industrial machinery.
- Client Collaboration: Partner directly with customers to refine product specifications, align expectations, and bring their product vision to life.
- Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Consult with manufacturing teams to proactively resolve production issues, optimize designs for cost, and improve overall manufacturability.
- Sustaining Engineering: Maintain and update existing design documentation to resolve End-of-Life (EOL) component issues, handle engineering change requests, and implement customer modifications.
- Mentorship: Act as a technical mentor to junior engineers and technicians to support their professional development and skill sets.
Technical Skills & Competencies
Qualified candidates should possess experience in most of the following areas:
- Core Manufacturing Design: Proficient in weldment design, sheet metal fabrication, and both metal and plastic machined parts.
- Systems Integration: Experience with electro-mechanical designs and assembly models/drawings.
- Vacuum Process Systems: Familiarity with detailed chamber design, large-format CNC machining optimization, OEM part selection/integration, and testing requirements (experience in the semiconductor market is a strong plus).
- Software Mastery:Autodesk Inventor is required; hands-on experience with SolidWorks is a distinct advantage.
- Processes & Quality: Familiarity with Engineering Change Management, MRP systems, Quality Management Systems (QMS), and Microsoft Office.
- Methodologies: Strong background in New Product Development (NPD), Sustaining Engineering, Design for Cost, and DFM.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or an equivalent combination of formal education and hands-on experience).
- Experience:6 to 10 years of proven experience in a similar mechanical design or engineering role.
