Objectives and scope of the job

Technical lead for the complete life-cycle of the development or modification of laboratory instruments, from analyzing existing systems

and requirements to the generation of concepts and their implementation. Focus is on complex projects

Responsibilities/Accountabilities/Main tasks

Compliance and application of the processes, SOPs, directives, guidelines and norms

Continuous professional skill development and support team to improve professional skills

Always aiming for quality improvements of own and the work of the team

Compliance and responsible with objectives, deadlines and budgets

Co-responsible for achieving project, group and company objectives

Mentor and coach other engineers

Guide and develop project and / or line reports (if applicable)

Technical analysis of current instruments and systems

Development of variants for mechanical and mechatronic modules

Evaluation and selection of variants with best possible fulfillment of the requirements including embedding in the overall system.

Evaluate solutions which achieve given production costs

Development of solutions that can be produced, tested safely without errors, easily replaced in the field.

Development of solutions that avoid adjustments in development, final test and in field replacement.

Generate and ensure development documentation and PLM data handling according to the development process.

Creation and execution of complex feasibility studies.

Supporting engineering testing to demonstrate compliance with requirements, paying special attention to early detection of weak points

and design flaws.

Clarify requests from the production, customer support, and product management departments

Supporting the production testing and production line validation

Executing complex root cause analysis

Leading and executing of design reviews

Support and review concept evaluation and architecture documentation

Generation and negotiation of requirements for new or modified systems

Technical lead for mechanical engineering during development

Monitoring the market with respect to relevant technologies and products

Requirements/Skills/Competencies

Excellent knowledge of mechanical design engineering for medical robotic devices

Excellent knowledge of manufacturing techniques, processes and costs

Excellent knowledge of measuring techniques

Good knowledge of system design incl. concept, usability, integration, value engineering, design to cost

Enhance and simplify the functional and technical aspects of products

Holistic understanding of the HW architecture with attention to details and interfaces

Consistently seeking and learning new technology

Write clear and detailed technical documentation, reports and analyses

Create, evaluate and recommend design concepts

Ability to run worst-case and statistical tolerance calculations and take measures

Good knowledge and ability to run FEM simulations and take measuress

Excellent understanding of aditive manufacturing and their applications

Ability to analyze, explain and present complex technical information

Ability to conduct complex research and take reasonable decisions based on the research

Role model when working independently or within a team setting

Good understanding of the overall development process

Excellent understanding and implementation of the HW development process

Contribute to continuous improvement of the HW engineering best practices

Technical mentoring and coaching of other engineers

Strong problem solver

Good ability to think independently when reviewing design approaches within a team

Uncover design flaws and substantiate reasonable doubt within projects

Basic Education

- Technical degree, preferably mechanical engineering

Further Education

- Broad education in technical sciences with HW development

- Trainings in ISO-GPS dimensioning, design-to-cost and requirement engineering

Experience

- 6 - 14+ years experience in instrument or module development, preferably in the medical device industry

Language Skills

- English (fluent)

Technical Knowledge and Skills

- Experience in instrument development, preferably in the medical device industry

- Experience in design of series production products

- Experience in Design-to-Cost / Desin-to Manufacturing

- Experience as technical lead for interdisciplinary product development teams
