AIXTRON's new manufacturing & engineering hub in Malaysia

We are building a new greenfield manufacturing and engineering hub in Batu Kawan, Penang. The site will provide a state-of-the-art cleanroom environment for assembly & testing of our high-end systems and will contribute to engineering for the next generation of products. Operations are planned to start in 2027 with a rapid ramp-up. Beyond technology, the new location is designed as a modern workplace with state-of-the art office and amenities —built to foster collaboration and a strong focus on people's wellbeing.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for purpose-driven builders: hands-on professionals with entrepreneurial spirit who enjoy setting up structures, improving processes and taking ownership in a fast-moving environment. As pioneers of our Malaysia site, you will help to shape not only your function, but also how we work together locally — while being connected to a global team of around 1,000 employees from 60 nationalities across Asia, Europe and the US. We offer competitive benefits, outstanding technical expertise, development opportunities and training.

About The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer specialising in Vacuum Design, you shape the heart of our deposition platforms. You will architect and optimize highly complex vacuum and exhaust systems that enable cutting-edge technology to perform at its limits.

With deep technical expertise and a strong system-level mindset, you will turn challenging requirements into robust, high-performance solutions. You will ensure not only peak performance, but also compliance, manufacturability, and long-term lifecycle stability — balancing innovation with reliability.

In this role, you don't just design components — you define system architectures, solve critical cross-functional challenges, and drive engineering excellence from concept to implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize complex vacuum architectures including pumps, sealing concepts, pressure control and contamination mitigation
  • Lead exhaust and gas handling system design for demanding chemistries and tight packaging conditions
  • Perform vacuum calculations and simulations (pump-down, conductance, pressure distribution, outgassing) and validate models against measurement data
  • Develop mechanical system architectures, define interfaces and manage clear, testable requirements
  • Apply structured problem solving, root cause analysis and risk assessment to resolve cross-functional issues
  • Drive design for manufacturing, cost optimization and tolerance strategies including geometric dimensioning
  • Ensure compliance with international standards and proactively steer documentation quality and configuration changes
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers and align stakeholders across disciplines and regions
  • Technical management of new manufacturing suppliers from prototyping to series production.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with 5–10 years of relevant experience
  • Strong expertise in vacuum system design, simulation and engineering calculations
  • Solid understanding of pressure, flow and thermal systems, with hands-on troubleshooting capability
  • Solid knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerance stack-up in multi-interface systems and GD&T
  • Experience in system architecture definition, requirements engineering, failure mode and effects analysis, and change management processes
  • Advanced proficiency in 3D computer-aided design and product lifecycle management systems
  • Advantage to be proficient in CREO/Pro-E and ERP systems such as SAP
  • Strong analytical mindset
  • Proven ability to lead technical decisions, manage risks and align cross-functional teams
  • High learning agility and ability to adapt to new technologies and complex environments
  • Fluent English

Working Conditions

  • Role based at AIXTRON Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.
  • Majority of work at the Batu Kawan site.
  • Occasional travel to Headquarters in Germany or other regional sites.
