Job Description
Responsible for supporting the MPD Engineer in the engineering design, planning, execution, and operational support of Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) applications, including post-drilling analysis and well engineering/operations optimization.
The MPD Wellsite Supervisor works closely with rig contractors, operators subsurface teams, well systems personnel, and regulatory authorities to develop and execute the safest and most efficient plans for successful MPD operations.
Responsibilities
- Support the MPD Engineer in preparing MPD programs, including transient and steady-state hydraulic simulations related to drilling, influx management, MPD matrices and operating envelopes, riser gas handling, drill pipe and casing/liner running, hole cleaning, cementing, and well completion processes in managed pressure mode. Develop operating procedures tailored to each specific operation.
- Coordinate assigned MPD projects with the team to ensure proper implementation of the MPD program and safe operational execution.
- Attend daily operational meetings on the rig, participate in risk assessments, hazard identification (HAZID) activities, and safety meetings, and supervise all phases of the job safely, including preparation, commissioning at the base and wellsite, MPD drilling operations, and rig-up/rig-down activities.
- Conduct land and offshore rig surveys and develop designs based on the job scope and operating parameters, including flow path selection and specifications for temporary and permanent rigid/flexible piping, isolation valves, MPD equipment installation, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
- Participate in and maintain documentation for MPD equipment and system risk assessment activities, including Hazard Identification (HAZID) and Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies.
- Perform engineering calculations and functional design specifications for surface MPD equipment and its integration with rig equipment, including surface line friction pressure losses, equipment and accessory performance, erosion analysis, and rig Mud Gas Separator (MGS) capability assessments.
- Participate in Drilling Well on Paper (DWOP) meetings when requested.
Requirements
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn through a structured development program, including internal and external training courses, professional certifications, and practical on-the-job training in both office and field environments.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution, preferably in Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic, Industrial, or Petroleum Engineering.
- Minimum of 7 years of Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) experience, including at least 5 years serving as an MPD Wellsite Supervisor (WSS).
- Experience in well control engineering and operations, with the ability to use influx management simulation software.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Professional demeanor with a strong customer service mindset.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to perform effectively under pressure.
