Senior Software Engineer

Bukku is a well-funded, fast-growing software company behind one of Malaysia's most-loved cloud accounting platforms — trusted by thousands of SMEs nationwide.

We're now entering our next phase of growth and are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team — someone with solid experience in Next.js and frontend architecture, who's excited to shape the product and mentor junior engineers.

You'll be working alongside a growing team of 9–10 junior/mid-level developers, contributing not just code, but engineering best practices and scalable solutions that help us serve even more SMEs across the country.

What You'll Do

• Lead the design and development of complex features and frontend architecture using React / Next.js.
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code — and help others do the same.
• Build reusable UI components and frontend infrastructure to improve dev velocity.
• Collaborate with product managers and designers to deliver high-impact features.
• Review code and mentor junior/mid-level engineers across the team.
• Participate in technical decision-making and help shape engineering direction.
• Occasionally contribute to backend APIs (Laravel, Python) as needed.

What You Should Have

• 5+ years of professional experience in modern web development.
• Strong hands-on experience with Next.js and React, including SSR, SSG, API routes, and routing strategies.
• Deep understanding of frontend architecture and performance optimization.
• Solid knowledge of HTML5, CSS3 (or styled-components, Tailwind, etc.).
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and state management tools (Redux, Zustand, etc.).
• Experience working with Git, CI/CD, and Scrum teams.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to share knowledge.
• Self-driven and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Laravel, Python, or hybrid mobile frameworks.
• Familiarity with MySQL performance tuning and backend optimisation.
• Exposure to TDD and test automation.
• Experience scaling applications with high daily active users (DAUs).
• UX sensibility and interest in product usability.
• Contributions to open-source projects or technical blogs.
