Senior Software Engineer

About the Role

You will design, build and maintain life-critical software used daily by emergency services and frontline workers, including more than half of Australia's paramedics. This role contributes across the full software development lifecycle, combining deep technical expertise with customer focus, attention to detail and strong communication. You will also provides technical leadership, mentoring less experienced engineers and helping shape high-quality, reliable products that operate in high-availability, mission-critical environments.

The most important duties of the role are:

• Developing, enhancing and maintaining life-critical software across mobile applications, in-vehicle systems, high-reliability back-end services, reporting layers and web interfaces.
• Participating in all phases of the SDLC, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment and operational support.
• Leading and contributing to design and architecture discussions, peer code reviews, and the selection of tools, frameworks and technologies.
• Building solutions using technologies such as C#, TypeScript, PowerShell, .NET, modern web frameworks (API-first design, OAuth, ReactJS, NextJS), and database technologies including Postgres.
• Ensuring software is developed in line with organisational coding standards, development methodologies, and release processes.
• Performing technical problem solving, root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions for complex issues and outages.
• Estimating effort, evaluating alternative solutions, and recommending improvements to systems, processes and technologies.
• Collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, including testers, support teams, clients and other Modaxo associates.
• Mentoring, coaching and supervising less experienced software engineers, supporting their growth through all stages of the development lifecycle.

Success in the role requires:

• Extensive experience (8–10 years) in software and systems development, with strong proficiency in C#, TypeScript, PowerShell and modern web and .NET development.
• A thorough understanding of best-practice software engineering methodologies and tools across the full SDLC.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work across complex, multi-system environments.
• The ability to learn new languages and technologies quickly, driven by solving problems rather than preference for specific tools.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to convey complex or sensitive technical information clearly.
• High levels of self-motivation, organisation and accountability, with the ability to manage competing priorities independently.
• A collaborative, customer-focused mindset with the maturity to build trust, motivate others and uphold organisational values.
• Working knowledge of AI platforms and how to integrate and utilize them to improve efficiency and augment development capabilities is a plus.
