Senior Systems Engineer
Report to Teamlead
Objectives
Technical lead for the complete life-cycle of the development or modification of laboratory instruments, from analyzing existing systems and requirements to the generation of concepts and their implementation.
Responsibilities
- Compliance and application of the processes, SOPs, directives, guidelines and norms
- Continuous professional skill development and support team to improve professional skills
- Always aiming for quality improvements of own and the work of the team
- Compliance and responsible with objectives, deadlines and budgets
- Co-responsible for achieving project, group and company objectives
- Mentor and coach other engineers
- Guide and develop project and / or line reports (if applicable)
- Lives Tecan`s brandhouse and values
Main Tasks
- Technical analysis of current instruments and systems
- Interfacing with user groups and Product Managers with respect to requirements for future developments
- Create and Review Concept Evaluation and Architecture documentation
- Leading and execution of Design Reviews
- Generation, assessment and selection of variants for product concepts
- Generation and negotiation of requirements for new or modified systems
- Technical lead during implementation of architectures
- Monitoring the market with respect to relevant technologies and products
- Evaluation of relevant technologies and feasibility studies
- Leading complex Root Cause Analysis
- Plan and lead configuration management
- Lead and contribute to Risk management
Requirements
- Excellent knowledge of medical devices and the medical device industry
- Excellent knowledge of systems engineering and creativity methods
- Good Knowledge of technology domains optics, mechanics, electronics and software
- Good Knowledge of diagnostics and life science application domains
- Knowledge of project managements methods
- Knowledge of quality methods and regulations relevant for medical device industry
- Consistently seeking and learning new technology
- Ability to analyze and explain complex technical information
- Create, evaluate, promote and explain design concepts
- Write clear and detailed architectural documentation
- Ability to think independently when reviewing design approaches within a team
- Uncover design flaws and substantiate reasonable doubt within project and over management hierarchies
- Ability to conduct complex research
- Contribute to continuous improvement of Systems Engineering Best Practices
- Role model when working independently or within a team setting
- Good understanding of the overall development process

- System Engineering knowledge on a level to present aspects of SE at international conferences
- Understands business needs and corresponding priorities
Basic Education - Technical degree, preferably computer science, mechanical, electrical or software engineering
Further Education - Broad education in technical sciences with HW and SW development
- Trainings in systems engineering, requirements engineering and project management
Experience - 6 - 14+ years experience in instrument development, preferably in the medical device industry
Language Skills - English (fluent)
Technical Knowledge and Skills - Experience in Requirements Engineering, preferably in the medical device industry
- Experience as technical lead for interdisciplinary product development teams
- Experience in Risk managment
- Knowledge of Microfluidics Applications
Interpersonal Skills/ Competencies (Core&Leadership) - Good oral and written Communication (English)
- Good moderation skills
- Capable of presenting a technical solution to an Engineering team
