About the Role
With significant exposure to US and international tax matters, the Tax Analyst / Senior Tax Analyst will assist with a broad range of corporate income tax matters in Malaysia, including tax compliance, transfer pricing and tax accounting / reporting. The role does not include responsibility for indirect taxes or payroll taxes. The Tax Analyst / Senior Tax Analyst will work closely with and support the ASEAN Tax Manager on regional and global tax projects assigned on an ad-hoc basis.
Main responsibilities
Tax Compliance
- Assist with the overall tax compliance process by gathering, processing and reviewing data necessary for tax computations, tax return preparation and other tax-related filings, including Global Minimum Tax filings.
- Work with external service providers and finance teams to ensure the timely submission of tax returns and tax payments, and compliance with statutory deadlines.
- Continuously improve procedures and processes to strengthen corporate governance and ensure compliance with prevailing tax legislation.
- Support tax audits, responses to tax notices and the timely resolution of other tax controversy matter with tax authorities.
Transfer Pricing
- Support and coordinate transfer pricing compliance, including preparation, review and maintenance of transfer pricing documentation.
Tax accounting
- Support monthly closing activities, forecasts, tax account reconciliations and monitoring.
- Support tax reporting under US GAAP, including annual provision, return-to-provision and deferred tax calculations.
- Support the review of tax disclosures and income tax provision computations in statutory audit financial statements for Malaysia.
Tax advisory support
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments that may impact business operations in Malaysia.
- Research and provide insights on the interpretation of applicable tax law.
- Support business and other functions in various transactions, including practical implementation, and identify risk areas.
Ad-hoc regional and global tax projects
- Support the development and implementation of process improvements to streamline tax processes and ensure accuracy in tax reporting and cash tax forecasting.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the ASEAN Tax Manager.
Key Competencies
- Education- Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy is required. Professional accounting qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, ICAEW or equivalent are preferred.
- Min 3 years of relevant working experience in corporate income tax, preferably in a major accounting firm, multinational corporation or in-house tax function.
Personal Competencies
- Excellent understanding of Malaysian corporate income tax matters, including transfer pricing and tax accounting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Excel.
- Experience with cross-border tax matters and multiple jurisdictions is an advantage.
- Proactive attitude and hands-on mentality.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
