Key Responsibilities
1. Tax Compliance and Reporting
- Prepare and review corporate tax computations in accordance with Malaysian tax regulations.
- Manage the timely preparation and submission of tax returns and statutory filings, including Form C, CP204, CP204A, and other relevant tax submissions.
- Ensure tax computations and filings are accurate, compliant with regulations, and submitted within statutory deadlines.
- Review tax work prepared by junior team members to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
2. Client Advisory and Technical Support
- Provide tax compliance and advisory services on corporate tax, Real Property Gains Tax (RPGT), withholding tax, and other related tax matters.
- Assist managers and partners in preparing tax advisory reports, tax planning strategies, and technical research.
- Identify potential tax risks and opportunities for clients and recommend appropriate solutions.
3. Liaison with Tax Authorities
- Act as the main point of contact with the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRB/LHDN) for client tax matters.
- Handle tax audits, investigations, and queries, including preparation of responses and supporting documentation.
- Manage correspondences with regulatory authorities and ensure timely follow-ups and resolutions.
4. Documentation and Compliance Management
- Ensure proper maintenance of tax working papers, documentation, and client records in accordance with internal and regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate client tax files and documentation to support compliance and audit requirements.
5. Team Supervision and Development
- Supervise and review work performed by junior associates and interns, providing guidance and technical support.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior team members to enhance their technical competencies and work efficiency.
- Monitor assignment progress to ensure work is completed efficiently and within deadlines.
6. Client Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with clients through effective communication and service delivery.
- Support client meetings and discussions on tax matters where necessary.
- Identify potential business development opportunities and contribute to expanding the firm's service offerings.
7. Ad Hoc Assignments
- Undertake special assignments, tax research, or advisory projects as assigned by the Tax Manager or Partner.
- Support the department in process improvements and technical updates when required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related discipline, or a recognized professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, MIA, MICPA, or equivalent).
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in taxation, preferably within a professional services or accounting firm.
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian tax regulations, corporate tax compliance, and statutory filing requirements.
- Experience in handling tax audits, tax queries, and communications with LHDN.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple client assignments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia; proficiency in Mandarin is an added advantage.
- Ability to work independently, manage assignments, and supervise junior staff.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in reviewing tax computations and tax returns prepared by junior staff.
- Exposure to tax advisory assignments, tax planning, or tax investigations.
- Familiarity with Malaysian tax systems, e-Filing, and tax compliance procedures.
- Experience working in a professional services or accounting firm environment.
