Job Description
We're not hiring a tax professional to process filings in sequence and wait for the next deadline. We're hiring someone to own the global tax footprint across multiple jurisdictions — where there's no specialist for every area, and every filing counts.
This is an Individual Contributor role. You'll lead through technical depth and execution instead of people management.
Why This Matters
Deriv's mission is Trading for Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime. That means transactions across dozens of currencies, regulatory obligations that shift without notice, and markets that don't slow down for month-end.
Our tax function spans a broad global scope — compliance, accounting, advisory, transfer pricing, and indirect tax across multiple jurisdictions — in a business that moves fast and doesn't slow down due to regulatory complexity. Real money, real regulations, real consequences if something is missed or misread.
We need a tax professional who can hold the full picture and execute the details. Someone who is as comfortable with a transfer pricing policy question on Monday as a filing deadline on Friday.
Why Deriv
We're building a business that takes tax seriously.
2.5 million active traders across regulated markets globally Finance operations increasingly automated — humans for judgment, not data entry 400+ internal users on our workflow orchestration platform, with automation reaching across compliance, reporting, and business functions Direct access to senior tax leadership — you'll work closely with the Head of Tax in Cyberjaya and report to the Global Tax Manager in London You'll step into a functioning global tax operation and take ownership of it. Not build from scratch — own what's there, and raise the bar.
What You'll Do
Tax compliance and execution — Manage direct and indirect tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions. Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external tax consultants to ensure filings, payments, reporting, and documentation are completed accurately and on time. Tax accounting and reporting — Own tax accounting processes, including current and deferred tax where relevant. Work with finance teams to ensure tax balances, provisions, and disclosures are robust and well-supported. Advisory and problem-solving — Research the tax implications of business activities, cross-border transactions, and structural matters. Assess risks and develop practical solutions that work in a fast-moving business, not just on paper. Transfer pricing and multi-jurisdiction support — Support transfer pricing documentation, intercompany arrangements, and coordination with external consultants. Balance technical defensibility with what the business actually needs to do. Monitoring and process improvement — Track tax law and regulatory changes across key jurisdictions and flag business impacts before they become problems. Improve workflows, trackers, documentation, and governance standards. Use AI tools and automation that reduce manual work and improve output quality.
Who You Are
8 to 12 years of relevant tax experience — with a strong technical foundation in corporate income tax and a track record of operating across a broad in-house or multi-discipline tax scope. Multi-jurisdiction and cross-border exposure — You've handled tax work across more than one jurisdiction and are comfortable navigating regional complexity. You know how to balance technical positions with what regulators in different markets actually expect. Hands-on across the full tax stack — Direct tax compliance, indirect tax, tax accounting (current and deferred), transfer pricing documentation, advisory support, and tax risk management. You don't hand off the detail — you own it. Experienced in coordinating with external tax consultants — You know how to brief, manage, and challenge external advisors across jurisdictions. You drive the relationship; they don't drive you. A clear and credible communicator — You make complicated tax positions understandable without losing the substance. You're effective with finance teams, business stakeholders, and external counsel. Commercially grounded — Your advice works in practice, not just on paper. You understand the business context behind the technical question and calibrate accordingly. Tech-forward — You use AI tools in your daily work. Process improvement is part of how you operate, not an afterthought. Accountable without being told to be — You take ownership of the outcome from the start. When the scope is unclear, you define it. When something breaks, you fix it.
The Honest Reality
The breadth here is real. You'll move across compliance, advisory, accounting, indirect tax, and transfer pricing — sometimes in the same week, across different jurisdictions. The work is technical, the pace is high, and judgment calls come without much lead time.
But the exposure is equally real. You'll work directly alongside the Head of Tax in Cyberjaya — one of the most effective ways to develop as a tax professional in a complex international business. You'll build fluency across a global tax footprint that most professionals at this level don't get close to.
If you want a role that stays within a well-defined lane, this isn't it. If you want broad technical ownership and the kind of exposure that accelerates your growth, it might be.
