Senior Technical Safety Engineer to join its team in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With extensive global experience in delivering engineering projects for greenfield and brownfield modification works, Wood is committed to applying its worldclass systems and practices to this assignment. The successful candidate will be part of the
Process Engineering team, contributing to the execution of upcoming projects.
The Role
Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining technical safety studies and deliverables for offshore/ onshore oil and gas facilities.
Ensures that risks related to process safety, fire and explosion, and personnel safety are identified, assessed, and mitigated in compliance with international standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities
Technical Safety Studies & Analysis
- Interface, lead and review the technical safety studies/ reviews performed by Third party consultant including:
- HAZID (Hazard Identification)
- HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study)
- SIL / LOPA (Safety Integrity Level / Layer of Protection Analysis)
- QRA (Quantitative Risk Assessment)
- FERA (Fire and Explosion Risk Assessment)
- EERA (Escape, Evacuation and Rescue Analysis)
- EESA (Emergency System Survivability Analysis)
- Bow-Tie and ALARP assessments
- Thermal Radiation & Gas Dispersion/ Plume Study
- Develop technical safety philosophies and design basis documents.
- Identify safety-critical elements (SCEs) and ensure their integrity requirements are defined.
Fire, Explosion & Loss Prevention
- Perform fire and explosion consequence modeling using approved methodologies and software.
- Define fire zones, hazardous areas, and blast overpressure criteria.
- Review layout and design from a safety perspective to minimize escalation and personnel exposure.
- Specify active and passive fire protection (AFP & PFP), fireproofing, and blast-resistant requirements.
- Maintain technical integrity - Deliver and support a strong HSE culture and take full cognizance of Health, Safety and Environmental issues
- Be fully conversant with Process safety and ensure its implementation within the project requirement.
- Ensure documents are originated, checked, and approved by suitable competent personnel
- Keep up to date with latest procedures, client requirements and legislation
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards such as:
- API, ISO, IEC, NFPA
- NORSOK standards
- IEC 61508/ IEC 61511
- Local authority/ Flag state regulatory requirements
- Client and project-specific safety standards
- Support regulatory submissions and authority reviews where required.
Interdisciplinary Coordination and interface with others
- Interface with Process, Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation disciplines, Operations team and others.
- Support procurement by preparing datasheets, specifications and reviewing vendor documents and technical bids related to safety materials and equipment.
- Participate in relevant meeting and discussions such as 3D model reviews, HAZID, HAZOP, design safety reviews and PEER reviews.
- Liaise and interact with other disciplines/ project team to ensure overall project goals are met and advise management of variations in a timely manner.
- Respond to relevant technical queries, deviations, and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
Construction & Commissioning Support
- Provide technical safety input during FEED, detailed engineering, fabrication, installation, hook-up, and commissioning.
- Review and respond to site queries and provide support during pre-commissioning and commissioning activities as required.
Leadership & Mentoring
- Guide and mentor junior technical safety engineers and designers.
- Support Lead engineer by reviewing engineering deliverables prepared by team members, provide input on project planning, workload estimation, and scheduling activities and facilitate safety workshops and studies as required.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical or equivalent).
- 10 years experience in technical safety engineering and must be related to the upstream offshore/ onshore oil and gas industry (Preferably in Greenfield and Brownfield Modification/ Rejuvenation works) - Minimum of 2 years working in a multi - discipline team environment
- Strong exposure to EPC project execution, from FEED through detailed engineering and construction, is an advantage.
- Hands-on experience with safety studies and risk assessments.
- Member of a recognized institution and preferably registered as a Professional Engineer / Chartered Engineer
- Conversant with relevant international standards and Codes or Practice.
- Good understanding of offshore/ onshore facility layouts, process systems, and emergency response philosophy.
