Shipping Management & OVM Asia Pacific Manager with a global chemical manufacturing company.

My client is a global chemical manufacturing company, with a well-established shared service hub located in Kuala Lumpur. They are looking for a Shipping Management & OVM Asia Pacific Manager to lead global operational vendor management for Maritime Carriers, Tank Container Operators (TCO), Flexitank, and Bulk Parcel categories.
Your new role
- Ensure contracted global freight agreements are incorporated into operations system & processes
- Support Global Freight Procurement in contract to onboarding of annual Liner, TCO, Flexitank tender of Asia Pacific. Ensure service changes within the tender period are promptly translated to operational level.
- Monitor utilization rate of and adherence to contracted quota
- Evaluate and manage LSP service levels through key performance measurements, service provider relationships and operational reviews
- Support efficient & effective crisis management, incident communication including coordination of insurance claims and general average.
- Monitoring, reporting and perform root cause analysis of services; analyse misses and ensure preventive/corrective actions
- Escalation points for import export community for improvement and resolution in relation to freight carriers, TCO, Flexitank. Key partner with countries and Global Bulk Parcel unit (GBPO) on Parcel Tanker import export operations
- Manage operational relationships with LSP to ensure understanding and adherence to BASF requirements and service level objectives, as well as facilitate issue resolution and drive improvements
- Identify and recommend opportunities for contract optimization, process improvements, and cost reductions. Proactively implement enhancements and focus on continuous improvement in import-export management, carrier, TCO and service provider operations.
- Enable regional steering and involvement in intra-regional and inter-regional shipment management / service delivery initiatives with shipping management team and GB community
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Liner/ TCO vendor management ensuring compliance with company policies and best practice
- Steer new development initiatives on maritime environment for proactive alternative or proposed solution to shipping challenge / advantage
- All other tasks as assigned relevant to meeting BASF and the objectives as outlined above
- Assumes back up responsibility for team member/line manager for service provider management and import-export operations as required
What you'll need to succeed
- Degree in Business Administration or equivalent, Logistics/Supply Chain/Business Management or related field
- Minimum 5-8 years in Logistics Operations, Logistics Service Provider management, Supply Chain Management. Working experience in the chemical industry preferred
- Expertise in Supply Chain Management, Operational Logistics and Import-Export processes, including Incoterms, regulations and non-conformance management.
- Good capability in written and verbal English.
- Intercultural competence, communication and language skills, Proactive and solution-oriented with good issue-handling skills.
- Proficient in Business Intelligence Tools, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of IMDG, IATA, Supply Chain Processes, Transportation Management (Air, Maritime and surface) and international trade preferred.
- Experience in project management & SAP implementation preferred
