Job Overview
We are seeking a high-caliber Senior Shop Detailer who specializes in heavy industrial structures and mining platework. This is not a corporate, slow-paced role with rigid playbooks. We are a fast-growing, dynamic startup where you will own your projects from end to end, solve complex geometry problems on the fly, and directly impact our fabrication pipeline.

This role is NOT for you if:
- You prefer Revit or SolidWorks over Advance Steel: Our entire workflow and tech stack are built around Advance Steel. We need a specialist, not someone trying to adapt other software to our processes.
- You only have commercial or residential steel experience: Mining platework is a different beast. If you haven't detailed chutes, hoppers, bins, or heavy launders, you will struggle with the complex geometries and wear-liner requirements of this role.
- You need a detailed playbook for daily tasks: We operate in a fast-paced startup environment. There is no hand-holding or rigid step-by-step manual. You need to be a self-starter who figures things out, establishes best practices, and executes independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Create highly accurate 3D models, shop drawings, and erection drawings for heavy industrial steel and mining platework using Autodesk Advance Steel.
- Detail complex platework components including chutes, bins, hoppers, and conveyors, ensuring proper allowances for wear liners, material flow, and fabrication tolerances.
- Generate and verify accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), NC files, and DXF files for CNC fabrication.
- Review client engineering drawings and identify/resolve missing information or design clashes independently.
- Collaborate directly with the fabrication shop floor to troubleshoot issues and optimize designs for manufacturability.
- Thrive in an evolving startup environment, helping to streamline detailing standards and workflows as we scale.
Qualifications & Experience
- Software Mastery: Proven, extensive experience using Autodesk Advance Steel as your primary detailing tool.
- Industry Focus: Minimum of 5+ years of experience detailing heavy industrial structures, with a heavy emphasis on mining platework (chutes, hoppers, materials handling).
- Startup Mindset: Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, manage your own time, and deliver high-quality outputs without micromanagement or rigid structures.
- Deep understanding of welding symbols, fabrication processes, and international steel detailing standards.
- Strong geometric and spatial problem-solving skills to handle complex plate developments and transitions.
Schedule
- Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Perth Time with an hour unpaid break (8 hours per day / 40 hours per week)
Key Responsibilities
- Shop Detailing (Primary): 3D modelling and 2D drawing production for mining/industrial structures and mechanical platework (launders, chutes, chute work).
- Design Support (Secondary): Conceptual and detailed design modelling, drawing production, and solution development.
- Leadership: Head up the shop detailing function; share skills and best practices with engineers/designers.
- Compliance: Apply Australian Standards (AS4100, AS1554, etc.) to all work.
Mandatory Requirements (Non-Negotiable)
- Software: Advanced Steel (expert level) & AutoCAD 3D/2D.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of shop detailing (modelling & detailing).
- Industry: Mining/industrial platework (launders, chutes) experience.
- Standards: Proven application of Australian Standards.
- Qualification: Mechanical or Structural engineering qualification (Diploma/Degree/Trade equivalent).
Technical & Work Setup
- Hours: Must overlap with Perth (AWST) core business hours.
- Software Stack: Advanced Steel, AutoCAD, MS Office (Teams/Outlook).
- Equipment: Own computer with high-speed internet.
