Engagement: Fixed-term contract aligned to migration phases
Role Overview
We are transitioning a portfolio of banking operations into a Global Business Services (GBS) delivery model. This role provides the operational subject-matter authority across the migration lifecycle - process discovery, knowledge transfer, target operating model design, cutover, and stabilisation. The SME is the go-to reference for how the process actually works, the person who validates that what gets migrated is accurate, controlled, and fit to run in a shared services environment.
Payments operations is the core discipline for this role. Working knowledge across the wider banking back-office landscape is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead as-is process discovery and documentation across in-scope towers (process maps, DTPs/SOPs, RACI, volumetrics, hand-offs).
- Own the payments operations workstream end-to-end as the primary process authority.
- Support knowledge transfer - structure KT plans, validate receiving-team competency, sign off readiness gates.
- Contribute to target operating model and to-be process design, including standardisation, control retention, and identification of automation / agentic AI opportunities.
- Identify operational, regulatory, and control risks in migrating each process, and define mitigations with the risk and compliance functions.
- Support cutover, hypercare, and stabilisation; resolve escalations and process defects post-go-live.
- Act as the interface between retained onshore teams, the GBS centre, and the transition/PMO.
Must-Have Requirements
- Demonstrable hands-on expertise in payments operations — cross-border and domestic payments, SWIFT MT/MX (ISO 20022), clearing and settlement, payment investigations and exceptions, cheque processing, and cut-off/cycle management.
- Proven experience operating within an international bank's GBS / shared services / captive or BPO environment — you understand how banking back-office work is actually run offshore, including KT, controls, and SLA delivery.
- Track record supporting or delivering an operations migration / transition (offshoring, centralisation, or TOM change).
- Strong process documentation discipline and the ability to translate tacit operational knowledge into structured, auditable artefacts.
Good-to-Have (breadth expected, depth optional)
General working understanding of the process flows, key controls, and typical pain points across:
- Trade finance operations (LCs, guarantees, collections)
- Loan operations (drawdowns, servicing, syndicated loans)
- Treasury back office (FX/MM settlements, confirmations, SSIs)
- Card operations (issuance, disputes, chargebacks)
- Reconciliation (nostro, GL, suspense)
- Customer onboarding and KYC
- Document and records management
Competencies
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity across multiple concurrent workstreams.
- Credible with both operations staff and senior transition/PMO stakeholders.
- Control- and risk-aware mindset; understands the regulatory sensitivity of banking operations.
