As a Software Engineering Manager with AirAsia Next, you will lead and grow a team of engineers, drive delivery excellence, and foster a healthy, inclusive, and high-performing engineering culture. You will partner closely with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to deliver scalable and reliable systems while supporting your team's professional growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers through regular coaching, feedback, and performance management
- Foster a strong engineering culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Own team delivery, ensuring projects are executed effectively, on time, and with high quality
- Partner with Technical Leads to drive system design, architecture decisions, and technical strategy
- Remove blockers and enable team productivity by coordinating across cross-functional teams (QA, Product, Operations, Support, etc.)
- Drive adoption of modern software development practices and Agile methodologies
- Support career growth and progression of team members through structured development plans
- Ensure a balance between technical excellence, delivery commitments, and team wellbeing
- Facilitate effective communication within the team and across the organization
- Champion experimentation, innovation, and continuous learning within the team
Duties
- Manage team capacity, planning, and prioritization in alignment with business goals
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define roadmaps, scope, and delivery timelines
- Provide oversight on technical solutions, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance
- Guide the team in making informed trade-offs between speed, quality, and complexity
- Monitor and improve engineering metrics such as delivery predictability, quality, and team health
- Lead hiring efforts, including interviewing, onboarding, and team expansion
- Build strong cross-team relationships and influence decision-making across multiple teams
- Drive continuous improvement in development processes, tooling, and workflows
- Ensure adherence to engineering standards, code quality, and best practices
- Represent the engineering team in leadership discussions and external engagements when required
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Proven experience as an Engineering Manager or a Technical Lead with strong people management experience
- Strong technical background with hands-on experience in technologies such as Java, React, GoLang
- Solid understanding of software development life cycle and Agile methodologies
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage performance, and develop talent
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
Preferred Skills
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Knowledge of microservices architecture and distributed systems
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience scaling teams and systems in a fast-paced environment
