Role Summary:
We are looking for an experienced Solar Design & Estimation Engineer to join our team remotely. You will receive onsite inspection data from our field team, design technically sound solar systems, and produce accurate client-ready quotations at volume. This is a hands-on, output-focused role requiring strong electrical and solar engineering fundamentals, sharp attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
Working Location: Home-based setup
Work Schedule: 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM (MYT)
Key Responsibilities:
- Review TSV/TSP reports, site photos, switchboard information, and electrical drawings to understand project requirements
- Develop preliminary designs and cost estimates from initial client and energy consumption data
- Produce final solar system designs and client-ready quotations following site visits
- Size and configure complete solar PV systems including panels, inverters, battery storage, and balance-of-system components
- Prepare accurate BOQs, equipment lists, cost breakdowns, and supporting technical documentation
- Design systems for complex applications including off-grid farms, battery-heavy setups, pump loads, and high-demand agricultural environments
- Coordinate with internal sales, technical, and project management teams throughout the quoting process
Must-Have:
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on electrical experience with more than 2 years specifically in solar PV design and estimation
- Strong system sizing skills across inverters, panels, batteries, and loads with proven off-grid and battery-heavy system experience for farms and high-demand applications
- Ability to read and interpret AutoCAD electrical drawings and designs
- Ability to interpret TSV/TSP reports, site photos, and electrical drawings and translate them into accurate BOQs, cost estimates, and technical documentation
- Proficiency in at least one solar design platform such as PVsyst, Helioscope, or equivalent
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience with Pylon or any NZ/AU-specific solar design tool, or a demonstrated ability to learn new platforms quickly
- Familiarity with Simpro or a similar job management system for integrating design outputs into a quoting workflow
- Exposure to OpenSolar or SketchUp for system modelling, roof layouts, and cable route documentation
- Knowledge of NZ or Australian solar installation standards and grid connection requirements
- Prior experience working with offshore or international clients in a remote environment
