Job Description

Job Summary:

The Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) will influence business bottom line results by leading, monitoring, and supporting Suppliers. The responsibility includes all quality related aspects of Supplier Quality and working with suppliers to drive PPM (Parts per million) improvements and reduce end customer warranty failures. The SDE will drive Supplier Quality Standard work including on site audits of suppliers and developing suppliers to meet quality goals by utilizing standard work approaches and interacting with a variety of plant and corporate team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform in-depth quality system assessments across commodities to confirm supplier structure and effectiveness of the Suppliers quality management system
  • Coordinates with Plant quality, engineering, manufacturing engineering, procurement and supplier quality on component quality / delivery issues and supplier initiatives
  • Work with the Global Procurement/Commodity Team on Supplier Selection and Approval.
  • Provides Supplier with technical oversight and expertise in areas such as Process Development, Failure Mode Effect Analysis FMEA, Measurement Systems, Control Plans and Error Proofing.
  • Support Supplier APQP (Advanced Product & Quality Planning) process to develop suppliers and products to the point of successful/on-time PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) and full production readiness based on Customer needs.
  • Monitors suppliers performance and adherence to the Global Supplier Quality Manual.
  • Drives process and systemic quality improvements through the use of quality tools and validates improvements through defined measurables to reduce quality non-conformances.
  • Lead cross-functional teams on major issues resolution at Supplier locations.
  • Support/Drive Major Quality Disruptions utilizing standard work tools such as Controlled Shipping, and SCAR (Supplier Corrective Action Request) .
  • Prepares, distributes, and communicates periodic Supplier performance status and risk assessments as required.
  • Identify gaps and create closure plan for quality and reliability targets.
  • Provide support of implementation of supplier-related Engineering Changes involving major product design, process, supplier changes, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or equivalent body of knowledge preferred
  • Quality Management System Auditing Experience including knowledge of Industry specific quality registration (ISO9000 / IATF16949)
  • 5 years of experience in quality or quality engineering in a manufacturing environment that has embraced lean concepts, QMS manufacturing practices, and progressive customer relationships.
  • Experience in quality management, operations, lean manufacturing processes and visual management.
  • Working knowledge Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing, and dimensional metrology
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, mentor, team player and builder
  • Professional in both customer and supplier interaction
  • Collaborative and Participative management style
  • Major working location in Thailand or Malaysia. Ability to travel up to 50% in Southeast Asia and South Asia regions.
  • Good English, both oral and written.

  • Proficient in contemporary quality tools such as Quality Management System QMS, Advanced Product Quality Planning APQP, Problem Solving, 8D, Statistical Process Control, Production Part Approval Process.
  • Project management and planning tools, measuring, and monitoring of project activities and project documentation. Proficiency in information technology systems utilized in Quality Management Systems and process.
