Job Description

Role Purpose: Provide hands-on technical, analytical, and tooling-focused support for data governance activities including metadata management, data quality, lineage, and technical discovery. The role translates governance requirements into technical specifications and works closely with Technology teams to operationalize data governance controls across the data ecosystem.

Scope of Role

Acts as the connective layer between Data Governance, Tech, and Business Data Owners.

Focuses on technical enablement, execution, and continuous improvement of governance capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Execution

Execute metadata capture, curation, and lifecycle updates in enterprise catalogs.

Perform end-to-end lineage documentation (automated and manual), including system, table, and column-level tracing.

Configure and test data quality rules, thresholds, monitoring workflows, and exception handling.

Conduct technical data analysis, profiling, anomaly detection, and SQL-based validation to support governance decisions.

Support technical discovery activities to identify sensitive data, rules gaps, or lineage break points.

Tooling & Platform Support

Support implementation, configuration, and enhancement of DG tools (e.g., Google DLP, Data Catalog, Dataplex, and others).

Ensure tools are used consistently in accordance with governance standards and operating procedures.

Documentation & Requirements

Document technical requirements, data mappings, and process flows.

Maintain data dictionaries, business glossaries, and technical metadata attributes.

Produce analysis outputs, impact assessments, and lineage diagrams for governance reporting.

Write and update SOPs, playbooks, and technical runbooks.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

Partner with Technology teams on remediation, integration, and governance control uplift.

Work with Data Owners, Data Stewards, and Data Custodians to validate metadata accuracy and business definitions.

Provide guidance and training to stakeholders on governance tools and processes.

Escalate data issues, risks, and quality concerns with clear root cause analysis

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

Strong SQL proficiency for analysis, validation, and profiling.

Hands-on experience with metadata, lineage, or DQ tooling (preferably Google Cloud Data Catalog, Dataplex, or equivalent platforms).

Familiarity with cloud technologies (GCP preferred), APIs, and data pipeline concepts.

Understanding of relational data models, data warehousing, and ETL/ELT processes.

Ability to interpret technical architectures, data flows, and schema structures.

Business & Analytical Skills

Strong analytical and problemsolving capabilities.

Ability to translate business governance requirements into technical specifications.

Experience documenting data processes, requirements, and flows.

Understanding of data governance frameworks, such as DAMA DMBoK (helpful but optional).

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related fields.

410 years experience in data governance, business analysis, or data engineering support roles.

Certifications in GCP, DAMA, or data governance tooling (optional advantage).

Core Competencies

Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Strong documentation discipline.

Proactive in identifying issues and proposing solutions.

Collaborative and comfortable working in matrixed teams.

Cloud: Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Dataplex, Data Catalog, DLP)

Languages: SQL, Python (basic scripting beneficial)
