Position Summary
The tool maker develops, constructs, and alters a wide variety of tooling components. Utilizes a level of understanding of CAD/CAM software. This position requires working knowledge & hands on ability to achieve excellence in machining processes across a diverse group of machines and platforms.
Principle Responsibilities
- Assist in the designing and building of fixtures, gages and tooling to blueprint specifications.
- Assembles and checks components for proper fit and clearance.
- Reworks fixtures, gages and tooling to make necessary repairs or modifications in design.
- Works with engineering on any suggested print and document updates and or revisions.
- Develops and maintains information files for press tooling such as die set and clamping detail information.
- Setup and operate assorted equipment (including welders).
- Maintains housekeeping and safety standards in work area.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Conveys written instructions to machinist and other departmental staff as needed.
- Fixture design, build and assemble including heat treat and welding.
- Inspect equipment using calipers, micrometers, height gages, and comparators.
- Calculate figures and amounts such as area, circumference, and volume and apply concepts of basic geometry and trigonometric functions.
- Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and work withmetric and imperial units.
- Reads and interprets blueprints and GD&T.
- Perform lean manufacturing principles.
- Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by supervisor.
Credentials/Experience
Qualification Requirements
- Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year collegeor technical school preferred;
- 1-3 years experience or equivalent combination of education.
- Knowledge of conventional and CNC machining, milling, grinding, turning, and measuring equipment such as a CMM.
- Ability to obtain fork truck license.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- An understanding of the basic functions of CAD / CAM functions and understanding of commonly used tooling alloys and materials and their proper applications & ability to NX Viewer
- Excellent communication & interpersonal skills.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel or equivalent.
- Ability to problem-solve & work well under pressure and to remain flexible to changing schedules and demands.
- Ability to work independently and exercise judgment.
