A Trade Compliance Manager - Chemicals Trade Control role with a supply chain hub in KL.

Your new company

My client is world's largest chemical manufacturing company with a well-established shared service centre. They are currently expanding the supply chain hub in a global scale and looking for a Trade Compliance Manager in Chemicals Trade Control, to be part of their team in KL.

Your new role

  • Finalize and keep updated the Corporate Requirement on Chemicals Trade Control for BASF SE and all BASF Group companies
  • Develop and maintain a roadmap for your cluster according to political context, including risk analysis for BASF group
  • Actively act as a radar function, scanning for potential new trade restrictions in scope of your cluster*
  • Collaborate with other cluster leads/ global topic owners on cross-cluster topics, defining guardrails and prerequisites for compliance
  • Main liaison for internal stakeholders on Chemicals Trade Control, e.g. CLC/TC, Regional Trade Compliance teams, National Trade Compliance Officers (NTCOs), Business unit colleagues
  • Coordinate Global Topic Owners within your cluster to optimize resources, avoid duplication & maximize output. Support them in writing governance documents and developing compliance concepts
  • Design and document a concept for the warehousing of Trade Compliance-regulated goods. Upon concept approval, develop the process and lead the implementation
  • International Conventions in scope of your cluster are:
    • Rotterdam Convention (Prior Informed Consent)
    • Basel Convention
    • UN Convention on Drug Precursors
    • UN Convention on Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances
    • Montreal Protocol - Ozone Depleting Substances
    • Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases
    • Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)

What you'll need to succeed

  • Graduate in natural science (preferred chemistry, chemical engineering) Compliance or Regulatory certifications are an added advantage
  • Min 8 years experience, preferably in a Chemicals trading or manufacturing company.
  • Experience in the field of Foreign Trade, Compliance, Regulatory, product safety / product stewardship
  • Project management
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking - able to read and interpret regulation and conceptualize them into requirements, high critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with Materials classification & GHS classification
  • Familiarity with SAP GTS, (S4Hana) preferred
  • Familiarity with BASF business processes would be a plus
  • Team player with a cooperative working style; entrepreneurial drive to take ownership until resolution
  • Business fluent in written and spoken English (German preferred)
  • Capable to translate complex scenarios into digestible content for non-experts
