As our transaction monitoring capabilities continue to scale, we are looking for a Transaction Monitoring Operations Lead to lead the day-to-day transaction monitoring function and ensure effective detection, investigation and escalation of suspicious or potentially high-risk transactions.
Role Overview
The Transaction Monitoring Operations Lead will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end transaction monitoring operations, including alert review, investigation, case management, escalation, quality assurance and operational reporting.
The role will lead a small TM Operations team and work closely with Compliance, AML, Risk, Product, Operations and Technology teams to ensure that transaction monitoring controls are effective, risk-based and operationally efficient.
The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience in transaction monitoring, AML investigations and financial crime operations, preferably within payments, digital assets, fintech, banking or financial institutions.
Key Responsibilities
Transaction Monitoring Operations
- Lead day-to-day transaction monitoring operations and ensure timely review and disposition of alerts.
- Oversee the investigation of transaction monitoring alerts involving unusual or potentially suspicious activity.
- Review complex and high-risk cases and determine appropriate escalation and next steps.
- Ensure investigations are supported by clear rationale, evidence and appropriate documentation.
- Identify potential suspicious transaction patterns and escalate cases to Compliance/AML management where appropriate.
- Ensure transaction monitoring cases are managed within defined SLAs and internal policies.
Team Leadership & Quality Assurance
- Lead and supervise Transaction Monitoring Operations staff.
- Allocate workloads and monitor team productivity, quality and SLA performance.
- Conduct regular QA reviews of alert investigations and case dispositions.
- Coach team members on transaction monitoring methodologies, investigation standards and documentation quality.
- Identify recurring quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain TM Operations SOPs, investigation guidelines and escalation procedures.
Transaction Monitoring & Risk Detection
- Analyse transaction activity across fiat, digital assets, wallets, payments and other relevant financial flows.
- Identify typologies including:
- Structuring / smurfing
- Rapid movement of funds
- Layering
- Circular transactions
- Unusual velocity or transaction behaviour
- High-risk jurisdictions
- Sanctions-related concerns
- Mule / funnel account activity
- Potential fraud or financial crime
- Unusual crypto wallet activity
- Support investigations involving customer behavioural patterns and transaction history.
- Work with Compliance and AML teams on suspicious transaction reporting and regulatory escalation where required.
TM Rules & System Enhancement
- Work closely with Compliance and Product/Technology teams to improve transaction monitoring scenarios and alert logic.
- Analyse alert trends and identify opportunities to reduce false positives without compromising risk coverage.
- Provide operational feedback on transaction monitoring rules, thresholds and scenarios.
- Support UAT and implementation of new TM scenarios and system enhancements.
- Monitor system performance and identify gaps in transaction monitoring coverage.
Reporting & Governance
- Prepare regular TM Operations reports covering:
- Alert volumes
- Investigation turnaround time
- False-positive rates
- Escalation rates
- QA results
- Backlog
- Productivity
- Key risk trends
- Support internal compliance reviews, audits and regulatory examinations.
- Maintain appropriate records and documentation for audit and regulatory purposes.
- Support periodic review and enhancement of the transaction monitoring framework.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Law, Compliance or a related discipline.
- 5–8+ years of experience in transaction monitoring, AML operations, financial crime investigations or related functions.
- At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or team lead capacity preferred.
- Experience in payments, banking, fintech, digital assets, crypto, remittance or financial services strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of AML/CFT principles and transaction monitoring methodologies.
- Hands-on experience investigating complex transaction monitoring alerts.
- Strong understanding of transaction typologies and financial crime risks.
- Experience working with transaction monitoring systems and case management platforms.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to make sound risk-based decisions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- CAMS, ICA or other AML/financial crime certification.
- Experience with MAS-regulated financial institutions or Singapore regulatory requirements.
- Experience with digital asset transaction monitoring and blockchain analytics.
- Experience with tools such as Chainalysis, TRM Labs, Elliptic or similar platforms.
- Experience working with transaction monitoring platforms such as VisionX or similar systems.
