About The Role

The WWTP Engineer is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, compliant and reliable operation of the site's Wastewater Treatment Plant and Utilities section involving Boilers, Air Compressor & Chiller Compressors. This role covers treatment process control, regulatory compliance, optimization, troubleshooting, equipment maintenance planning, data analysis, and continuous improvement to ensure effluent meets DOE/DOSH requirements and company environmental standards.

Work Location Pasir Gudang - Johor

Key responsibilities

WWTP Operations & Compliance

  • Lead daily WWTP operations to ensure effluent meets DOE requirements and internal specifications.
  • Perform and verify process control tests (pH, COD, BOD, TSS, NH3-N, oil & grease, MLSS, MLVSS, DO, SVI).
  • Maintain logs and reporting for DOE compliance.
  • Ensure proper calibration and functioning of analyzers, probes and dosing equipment.
  • Prepare documentation for audits and environmental reporting.

Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze WWTP performance trends and implement stability and efficiency improvements.
  • Identify root causes of upsets and execute corrective actions.
  • Lead upgrading projects or capacity improvements.

Maintenance & Asset Management

  • Develop preventive maintenance plans for WWTP equipment.
  • Support troubleshooting with maintenance teams.
  • Ensure critical spares availability.

People & Contractor Management

  • Supervise WWTP operators and ensure competency development.
  • Manage contractors for desludging, chemical supply, calibration and servicing.

Safety, Environmental & Quality Management

  • Ensure compliance with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, HACCP and internal QHSE standards.
  • Participate in environmental risk assessments and inspections.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare daily/weekly/monthly WWTP performance reports.
  • Maintain SOPs and work instructions for WWTP.
  • Support audits and documentation requirements.

Utility Operations – Partial Support

  • Assist in Utility Lead or Engineer whenever needed for boiler, chiller, cooling tower, air compressor, process water operations
  • Works together with Utility Lead or Engineer for the improvement related task for machinery, people or program related to Utility Section

Decision-Making Authority

  • Approve operational adjustments and recommend major repairs or CAPEX modifications.

Qualifications And Skills

  • Degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in industrial WWTP operations.
  • Strong knowledge of biological, chemical and physical wastewater treatment processes.

Skills & Competencies

  • Certified CePIETSO‑BP & CePIETSO‑PCP
  • Strong understanding of activated sludge, SBR, DAF, aeration and sludge handling.
  • Ability to analyse lab data and interpret performance trends.
  • Strong troubleshooting in mechanical, electrical and instrumentation related to WWTP.
  • Leadership, communication and problem‑solving skills.
