Private Markets | Alternative Investments | Investment Monitoring & Valuation

KPP Search is partnering with a global investment organisation seeking a Valuation Manager to join its Alternative Investments team in Kuala Lumpur.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced valuation professional to work across a diversified private markets portfolio spanning private equity, private credit, real estate and infrastructure investments. The role combines hands-on valuation analysis, portfolio monitoring, risk assessment and stakeholder engagement within a highly international investment environment.

The Role

As a Valuation Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the ongoing monitoring and assessment of alternative investment portfolios. Working closely with investment managers and fund sponsors, you will help evaluate performance, assess valuation methodologies and contribute to investment oversight activities across a range of private market strategies.

The position offers significant exposure to global investment portfolios, direct interaction with external fund managers and the opportunity to influence investment decision-making through rigorous analysis and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Investment Performance Monitoring

  • Work closely with fund managers to collect, analyse and interpret investment data.
  • Monitor performance across private equity, private credit, real estate and infrastructure funds.
  • Prepare reporting and analysis for internal stakeholders, highlighting key trends, risks and performance drivers.
  • Support ongoing portfolio oversight and investment monitoring initiatives.

Valuation & Risk Assessment

  • Perform valuation reasonableness assessments for private market investments.
  • Apply recognised valuation methodologies including:
  • Discounted Cash Flow (DCF)
  • Public Market Comparables
  • Transaction Comparables
  • Review valuation assumptions and challenge underlying methodologies where appropriate.
  • Document valuation conclusions and maintain consistency across investment portfolios.
  • Conduct stress testing and scenario analysis to identify emerging risks and assess potential impacts on investment performance.
  • Participate in enhanced monitoring exercises, including site visits and meetings with investment managers where required.

Reporting & Process Improvement

  • Support the development and enhancement of private markets reporting capabilities.
  • Contribute to automation and process improvement initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, accuracy and timeliness of reporting.
  • Assist in the development of analytical tools and frameworks to support investment monitoring activities.

Candidate Profile

We are interested in speaking with professionals who have developed strong valuation expertise within private markets, investment management, transaction advisory, consulting or related environments.

Key Requirements

  • Experience valuing private equity, real estate and/or infrastructure investments.
  • Strong understanding of alternative asset classes and associated valuation methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience applying DCF, comparable company analysis and precedent transaction methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling capabilities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to present complex financial information clearly and effectively.
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented and comfortable operating in a dynamic environment.
  • Credit analysis or credit ratings experience would be advantageous.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 5+ years of relevant experience in valuation, investment analysis, transaction services, advisory or alternative investments.
  • Professional qualifications such as CFA, CAIA, ACA or ACCA would be beneficial but are not essential.
