Department Overview
NAM SG Compliance, within the Asia (ex-Japan) Legal & Compliance function, partners with other corporate functions to serve and protect the firm as a second line of defence by identifying, analysing and mitigating compliance risks and to promote risk and control ownership across the firm and together with others foster a culture of ethics and compliance.
Role Overview
- We are seeking an experienced asset management compliance professional to join the NAM SG Compliance team.
- The successful candidate will be required to have a good understanding and expertise in asset management in Singapore and the applicable regulatory framework - any additional APAC regional know-how will be an added bonus.
- The successful candidate will be required to be a team player and forge strong relationships with key business stakeholders and the wider Compliance department, ensuring adherence to all applicable regulatory requirements whilst supporting business growth.
Role Description
Team & Collaboration
- Join a five-person NAM SG Compliance team
- Collaborate with NAM Compliance teams across other locations
- Work with wider Nomura compliance teams
- Develop relationships with NAM SG stakeholders and regional teams
- Liaise with NAM head office in Tokyo
Compliance Standards & Controls
- Contribute to development and implementation of compliance standards, policies, procedures, frameworks, systems and controls
- Ensure applicable regulatory requirements are met for NAM SG
- Embed and reinforce appropriate compliance and risk culture for NAM SG
Investment Guideline Monitoring
- Carry out compliance checks against clients guidelines on transactions using the Charles Rivers system, which includes reviewing daily exception reports, rectifying and reporting any identified irregularities, reporting to management and maintaining records as required.
Regulatory Developments
- Monitor changes and developments in relevant laws and regulations applicable to NAM SG business
- Participate in relevant governance committees and forums as required to keep up to date on industry practices and trends.
Daily Support & Advice
- Provide daily compliance support, review and advice on regulatory requirements
- Address cross-border distribution matters, new products and services, transactions, conflict assessment, investor events, staff personal dealings, gifts and entertainment
- Review marketing materials and RFPs
Training & Communication
- Provide training on new or updated compliance policies and procedures
- Conduct refresher training where required
- Draft and issue compliance alerts as necessary
Regulatory & Audit Management
- Handle regulatory inquiries, examinations and internal/external audits
- Liaise with regulators in conjunction with relevant Nomura Country Compliance team
- Contribute to submission of periodic or ad hoc regulatory reports to NAM AEJ management and head office in Tokyo
Legal & Governance
- Liaise and work closely with internal legal counsel and external lawyers
- Support company secretarial matters
- Participate in relevant governance committees and forums
Investigation & Risk Management
- Investigate client complaints, errors and incidents
- Identify potential compliance and control lapses
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of experience in regulatory compliance with a primary focus on asset management compliance.
- Demonstrated understanding of the asset management industry, products and services
- Demonstrated understanding of the relevant financial regulations in Singapore as they apply to an asset management business with experience in dealing with regulators, in particular MAS.
- Degree or equivalent in relevant discipline.
- Excellent analytical skills, problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with internal stakeholders, regulators, and business partners.
- Team player, enthusiastic, flexible, eager to learn/teach, self-motivated, strong sense of responsibility with impeccable values and integrity.
