Job Description

The challenge

Your job: own and lead compliance operations across Deriv Group's global footprint—where regulatory frameworks conflict across 25+ jurisdictions, where crypto licensing requirements reshape markets monthly, and where compliance and legal teams need to work as one function to navigate ambiguous regulations.

You'll drive compliance strategy for operations spanning investment services, payment services, and crypto assets. You make calls when regulations conflict, when business needs require creative compliance approaches, and when emerging frameworks don't have established precedents. You work alongside legal teams to interpret regulations, structure solutions, and ensure compliance frameworks account for both regulatory and legal risk.

This isn't compliance oversight. It's building compliance operations that enable growth by bridging regulatory requirements with legal frameworks—where deep legal understanding creates competitive advantage.

AI can monitor regulatory feeds and draft policies. Only you can interpret how regulations actually apply when legal frameworks are ambiguous, bridge compliance and legal perspectives, and design frameworks that satisfy both regulatory obligations and legal requirements.

Why this matters

Deriv operates in 25+ jurisdictions serving millions of traders globally. Your compliance work determines which markets we enter, which products we launch, and whether operations withstand regulatory scrutiny as we scale.

You'll work alongside the CCO and Head of Legal to shape Deriv's approach to regulatory risk. You'll lead a compliance function managing 20+ licenses across investment services, payments, and crypto—while building the team and systems to handle more without proportional headcount. Your decisions determine whether compliance becomes a growth enabler or a bottleneck.

Why Deriv

Own global compliance strategy. You'll architect compliance across the Deriv Group. Your decisions shape market entry, product strategy, and how we navigate regulatory complexity. Work directly with the CCO and C-level leadership.

Lead through a transformational moment. We're transitioning from reactive compliance to AI-driven operations. You'll architect this transformation—from manual gap analyses to automated monitoring, from jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction policies to unified frameworks. You're building the future compliance function, not maintaining the current one.

Bridge legal and compliance disciplines. Your legal understanding creates competitive advantage. You'll interpret regulations through both compliance and legal lenses, work closely with legal counsel, and provide integrated guidance where regulatory and legal risks intersect.

What You'll Do

  • Own group-wide compliance strategy across investment services, payment services and crypto assets (VASP). Drive compliance risk assessment and mitigation for global operations.
  • Interpret complex regulatory requirements where legal and compliance perspectives intersect. Make strategic calls on how regulations apply when frameworks are ambiguous, when jurisdictions conflict, or when emerging technologies create novel questions.
  • Bridge regulatory compliance with legal risk management, ensuring frameworks satisfy both regulatory obligations and legal requirements.
  • Monitor regulatory changes globally and assess business impact proactively as crypto licensing, payment regulations, and investment services requirements evolve across jurisdictions.
  • Work with regional teams to ensure consistency while adapting to local requirements. Create systems that scale across diverse regulatory regimes.
  • Build regulator relationships, represent Deriv in regulatory discussions and examinations, and navigate regulatory inquiries across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Create quarterly compliance work plans, conduct risk-based reviews, and drive action plans that address gaps before they become regulatory issues.
  • Advise C-level leadership on strategic decisions. Provide compliance guidance on market entry, product launches, and partnerships. Enable informed risk-taking through clear assessment of regulatory and legal implications.
  • Partner with engineers to build AI automation; design tools that eliminate manual work so compliance expertise focuses on strategy, judgment, and regulator relationships.

Who You Are

  • 10+ years in compliance with deep expertise in legal and/or regulatory compliance. Experience with investment services, payment services, or crypto frameworks is highly valuable. You've made strategic compliance calls that shaped business direction.
  • Law degree, legal qualification, or extensive legal-compliance hybrid experience. You interpret regulations through both legal and compliance lenses.
  • You've led compliance teams. You've hired compliance professionals, built capability in others, and made tough performance decisions.
  • You have strong regulatory relationships. You've engaged with regulators across multiple jurisdictions, represented organizations in examinations, and built credibility with authorities.
  • You understand regulatory compliance in complex, regulated industries. Fintech experience is valuable but transferable compliance expertise from banking, financial services, or other regulated sectors is equally relevant.
  • You're commercially pragmatic with strong strategic judgment. You balance regulatory obligations with business velocity and take accountability for outcomes.
  • You influence senior stakeholders. You've advised C-level executives and shaped business strategy through compliance guidance.
  • You're comfortable with AI and automation. You see opportunities to scale compliance through technology.

Location

You'll be based at our Cyberjaya headquarters, leading group-wide compliance operations. You'll work with the CCO and C-level leadership to shape compliance strategy across the organization.
