Job Description

VDB Loi is a legal, tax and accounting advisory firm working across Southeast Asia, including Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Indonesia, and is part of the Andersen network. Our Vientiane team supports international and local businesses with their accounting, tax and compliance needs in Laos.

We're looking for an experienced, client-facing Accounting Manager to lead our accounting services team in Vientiane. You'll look after a portfolio of clients, make sure their monthly accounts, reporting and filings are accurate and on time, and be their main point of contact.

This role is based in Vientiane. We welcome applicants from outside Laos, including Malaysia, and will support you with relocation and work permit arrangements.

Client relationships

Be the main contact for a portfolio of clients, from small foreign-owned businesses to regional groups
Meet clients regularly, explain their numbers in plain language and answer accounting and compliance questions
Onboard new clients: understand their business, set up processes and agree deadlines
Spot opportunities to help clients further and work with the tax and legal teams to support them
Support proposals and fee quotes for new work

Accounting and reporting

Review and sign off monthly bookkeeping, bank reconciliations and management accounts
Prepare or review year-end financial statements under Lao accounting standards and IFRS where needed
Oversee payroll processing and related filings for clients
Manage monthly and annual tax filings with the tax team, including VAT, withholding tax and profit tax
Coordinate with external auditors and handle audit queries
Prepare group reporting packs for clients with overseas parent companies

Team and quality

Lead, train and review the work of a team of accountants
Plan workloads so client deadlines are met
Keep processes, checklists and quality controls up to date
Stay on top of changes to Lao accounting and tax rules

Must have

Degree in accounting or finance
Professional accounting qualification, such as ACCA, CPA, CA or MIA (or part-qualified with strong experience)
At least [6] years accounting experience
Experience in a client-facing role, ideally at an accounting firm, outsourcing provider or Big 4
Hands-on experience with monthly accounts, year-end financial statements, payroll and tax filings
Confident with accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks or SAP, and strong Excel skills
Excellent written and spoken English
Willing to relocate to and live in Vientiane

Nice to have

Experience working in Laos or another Mekong country (Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand)
Knowledge of Lao accounting standards and tax rules
Lao or Thai language skills
Experience serving multinational clients and group reporting
