Job Description
AMD Laptop Hardware Test Intern
- Work Location: Penang (Client Office) – GBS by the Sea
- Internship Period: 3–6 months
- Salary Range: RM 1,000 – RM 1,200 per month
- This internship is based on-site at our client's office in Penang. Candidates must be based in or willing to relocate/commute to Penang for the duration of the internship.
Position Overview
- We are looking for final-year students to join our hardware validation team. You will work on real laptop/desktop motherboards, learn to debug hardware issues, and get hands-on experience with BIOS, power sequences, and system-level testing.
Type A – Final-Year Hardware Test Track
- For candidates with hands-on board-level testing experience.
- You have at least 3 months of practical experience in hardware testing, validation, or debugging (internship counts).
- You've worked with BIOS, CPU, Memory, PCIe, or power validation on laptops/desktops.
- You can read schematics, use a multimeter, or understand power sequences.
- CGPA ≥ 3.2 (or equivalent).
Type B – High-Potential Final-Year Track
- For final-year students with strong academic background and learning potential.
- You are a final-year student and can commit to an internship that leads directly to your graduation (preference: can work until graduation).
- You have CGPA ≥ 3.5 (First Class / Dean's List) — we are flexible on major if you have strong EE fundamentals.
- You have solid EE coursework and a strong desire to learn hardware validation.
What You'll Do
- Work with real motherboard schematics and use lab tools like multimeters and oscilloscopes to check basic hardware functions — we'll teach you how to measure power sequences, voltages, and power usage step by step.
- Get hands-on with UEFI/BIOS firmware: practice updating firmware, collecting startup logs, and testing core PC functions like turning on/off, sleeping, and waking up the system.
- Assist in basic system troubleshooting: help analyze Windows/Linux logs to spot simple hardware or firmware issues under guidance from senior engineers.
- Try your hand at light automation: write simple Python or Batch scripts to run repetitive tests and collect test logs automatically — no advanced coding skills required.
- Work with cross-functional teams across different locations to complete end-to-end checks for laptops and desktops, following easy-to-follow project guidelines.
- Practice documenting your work: write clear, short English notes about test results, bugs you find, and how to reproduce them — templates and examples will be provided.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Final-year student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related hardware discipline.
- Minimum CGPA ≥ 3.2 (or equivalent).
- Basic understanding of analogue/digital electronics from your EE studies.
- Ability to read and understand simple electronic circuit diagrams (we'll train you on complex schematics).
- Good technical English reading skills to go through hardware manuals and test instructions.
- Curious mindset, eagerness to learn, and ability to follow team guidance and project processes.
- Reliable, responsible, and comfortable working in a collaborative team environment.
- Willing to work on-site in Penang for the full internship duration.
Strongly Preferred
- Candidates with prior project experience supporting AMD or other semiconductor clients.
- Experience with board-level debugging, BIOS/EC, or power validation on laptops/desktops.
Bonus Points (Nice-to-Have, Not Required!)
- Any prior tinkering with PCs, firmware, or basic coding (even class projects count!).
- Familiarity with Windows/Linux basics.
- Python or scripting experience (even just a little!).
