Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Administrative Duties and Responsibilities

1. Develop policies and procedures for the nursing staff, participate in the implementation of policies and bring care problems requiring changes in policy to the attention of management.

2. Participate in staff recruitment and selection and recommend termination of employment when necessary. Maintain a quality stable staffing level to meet the level of acuity of the hospital census.

3. Determine that duties assigned to all nursing personnel are consistent with their education, experience, licensure and/or certification.

4. Ensure all nursing personnel are supervised and evaluated on their performance at appropriate intervals.

5. Communicate issues to the nursing management team through regular meeting.

6. To support the Hospital Administration in the preparation, documentation and implementation of any program towards the accreditation of MSQH, JCI and any other quality accreditation(s).

7. Establish written procedures to ensure nursing personnel have valid and current licensure or certification to practice.

8. Provide support in clinical input for any renovations of clinical areas or new buildings to ensure compliance to MOH guidelines

Clinical Duties and responsibilities

9. Overseeing that the daily nursing activities within the hospital is running smoothly.

10. Provide support to ensure nursing issues are resolved as soon as possible.

11. Act as liaison between hospital administrations with clinical doctors.

12. Report any significant, safety issues of patient care to Medical Director where applicable.

13. Monitoring, supporting and advising Nurse Managers on hospital procedures and in the effective management of their areas of responsibility.

Nursing Risks Management and Quality Improvement

14. Oversee nurses compliance to processes

15. Monitor Quality Improvements/ effectiveness and coordinate a quality improvement program with the individual nursing units.

16. Oversee reporting of significant clinical incidences as per hospital requirement.

17. Redesign, restructure and re-plan where appropriate to ensure improving quality nursing care.

18. Draw up annual departmental goals and objectives and monitor their achievement.

19. Assist in the preparation, documentation and implementation of any Hospital's accreditation initiatives.

Nursing Staff Development

20. Review and assure nurse compliance with inservice requirements and program for

selfdevelopment

21. Assure a program of staff development that supports high levels of staff skill

22. Support clinical care discussion on observations/concerns about clinical compliance with the Clinical Teams

23. Enhance a teaching learning environment for all nurses

24. Enhance nurse managers knowledge and development in HR matters through training.

25. Supports all nursing staff orientation, on-job training and competency skill developmental programs.

26. Participate in teaching and learning to enhance concepts of leadership among the nursing teams.

27. Supports and oversee that relevant staff are privileged on skills of specialised procedures.

28. To remain up-to-date with clinical and managerial developments in health care.
