Job Summary
- Oversees and leads the mechanical engineering design for large-scale data centre projects, ensuring high-performance, reliable, and energy-efficient mechanical systems.
- This role manages the design of critical cooling infrastructureincluding chilled water, DX systems, CRAC/CRAH, ventilation, heat rejection, and mechanical plant roomswhile coordinating with architects, electrical teams, civil/structural engineers, and hyperscaler/client requirements.
- Ensures all mechanical designs meet Tier III/IV standards, Uptime Institute guidelines, and the fast-track delivery demands typical of mission-critical data centre construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the full mechanical design process for data centres from concept to detailed design.
- Develop mechanical design strategies based on cooling load, redundancy (N+1, N+2), energy efficiency, and client specifications.
- Ensure systems comply with relevant standards (ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, local codes).
- Oversee design of chilled water systems, direct expansion systems, CRAH/CRAC units, adiabatic/evaporative cooling, and heat rejection systems.
- Perform load calculation, equipment sizing, and system optimization for mission-critical cooling.
- Coordinate closely with electrical, architectural, C&S, fire protection, and ICT teams for seamless MEP integration.
- Work with BIM teams to validate mechanical design accuracy in federated models.
- Align design deliverables across consultants, contractors, and vendors.
- Review design drawings, equipment selections, specifications, and technical submissions.
- Conduct value engineering to optimize performance and cost efficiency.
- Ensure mechanical systems provide required maintainability, accessibility, and reliability.
- Evaluate and approve mechanical equipment from OEMs (chillers, cooling towers, pumps, CRAH/CRAC, AHUs, etc.).
- Ensure vendor designs integrate properly into the overall project.
- Provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Respond to RFIs, coordinate design clarifications, and resolve site issues.
- Ensure installation follows mechanical design intent and meets commissioning requirements.
- Prepare and manage mechanical design reports, basis of design (BoD), and technical documentation.
- Ensure all design documentation aligns with client/hyperscaler standards and project BEP.
- Support final handover, as-built documentation, and operational readiness.
