Job Description

Role Summary

The Head of Imaging provides strategic, scientific, and operational leadership for a multi-modality imaging core supporting small and large animal research. The role drives high-quality, compliant imaging services that enable translational research, while ensuring adherence to applicable regulatory, ethical, and animal welfare standards.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Scientific Leadership

  • Define and execute imaging strategy aligned with institutional research priorities
  • Advance multimodal imaging capabilities across MRI, CT, PET, ultrasound, optical
  • Partner with investigators on study design and imaging biomarkers
  • Drive the application of multimodal imaging approaches to longitudinal monitoring, disease characterization, treatment response, and quantitative biomarker development.

Operations & Service Delivery

  • Lead and optimize operations of small- and large-animal imaging facilities, including scheduling, throughput, utilization, and service quality.
  • Oversee equipment lifecycle management, maintenance, and technology planning.

Animal Welfare & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, ethical, and animal welfare requirements governing the use of laboratory animals in research.
  • Maintain imaging-related animal ethics protocols and support institutional animal ethics review and oversight processes.
  • Knowledge of relevant Singapore requirements (e.g., NACLAR Guidelines, Animals and Birds Act) is advantageous.
  • Embed the principles of Replacement, Reduction, Refinement (3Rs) across imaging operations and research activities

Quality, Data & Research Integrity

  • Establish and maintain SOPs, risk assessments, quality assurance/quality control, and research integrity standards
  • Oversee imaging informatics, data management, analysis workflows, and data integrity

Financial & Resource Management

  • Develop sustainable financial and cost-recovery models aligned with facility utilization and strategic priorities.
  • Develop business cases for new technologies

People & Stakeholder Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary teams, ensuring appropriate expertise, training, and succession planning
  • Build strong partnerships with researchers, leadership, and external partners
  • Support grant proposals and strategic collaborations

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience

  • PhD, DVM, MD, or equivalent qualification in a relevant field
  • At least 10 years of experience in preclinical imaging
  • Demonstrated experience working with small and large animal models
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in research, imaging, or core facility environments, preferably with responsibility for facility operations and/or service delivery
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and/or imaging facilities

Skills & Competencies

  • Expertise in multimodal imaging technologies
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory, ethical, and animal welfare requirements for the use of laboratory animals in research
  • Experience with animal ethics review, institutional oversight, and related approval processes.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience with imaging informatics, quantitative imaging, and image analysis
