Associate Director - Legal Counsel

Role Summary

The Legal Counsel will provide legal and strategic support to Pine Labs and its group entities across Southeast Asia. The role requires commercially minded lawyer with experience in fintech industry having worked on commercial contracts, fintech industry regulation and compliances, disputes and key legislations such as data. The lawyer will support regional business operations, product launches and market expansion while helping the business navigate applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities we entrust you with:

Regulatory and Product Advisory

• Advise on laws and regulations applicable to payments, fintech, digital financial services, AML/KYC, consumer protection and data privacy.
• Support legal and regulatory assessments for new products, business models and entry into new markets.
• Monitor relevant legal developments across Southeast Asia and advise internal stakeholders on their business impact.
• Work with Compliance, Risk and Product teams to develop appropriate risk-mitigation measures.

Commercial Contracts

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, including customer, merchant, partnership, technology, SaaS, vendor, services, licensing and data-processing agreements.
• Advise internal stakeholders on contractual risks and ensure compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
• Support contract renewals, amendments and terminations.

Data Privacy

• Advise on applicable privacy and data-protection requirements, privacy policies, privacy notices, data-processing arrangements and cross-border data transfers.
• Work with Product, Compliance, and Information Security teams on privacy-related requirements and issues.

Corporate and General Legal Support

• Support regional corporate-governance matters, corporate filings and documentation for group entities.
• Advise on cross-border transactions, strategic partnerships and general business matters.
• Manage external counsel, disputes and regulatory enquiries, where required.
• Provide legal and regulatory training to internal stakeholders.

What Matters in the Role:

• Qualified to practice law in a common law jurisdiction.
• Minimum 5 years of post-qualification legal experience.
• Substantive experience working with businesses in Southeast Asia, particularly in one or more of Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia Singapore.
• Experience in commercial contracts, regulated-sector advisory and applicable privacy and data-protection laws.
• Good legal drafting, negotiation skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively with cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams.
• Fluency in English; proficiency in a relevant Southeast Asian language is an advantage.

Preferred

• Previous in-house or law firm experience advising a fintech, payments, banking, or financial services business.
• Experience in supporting product launches or market expansion across multiple Southeast Asian jurisdictions.
• Minimum notice period, ability to come on board in a month.

This is a non-hybrid position and will report to Legal Counsel- International Business, based in India.
