About the Role

The Automation Tester is responsible for ensuring the quality, stability and reliability of life-critical software used daily by emergency services and frontline workers across Australia. This role plays a key part in safeguarding critical products by applying strong attention to detail, creative engineering and a customer-focused mindset. Working across the full software development lifecycle, the role contributes to requirements analysis, automated testing, defect triage and continuous improvement of testing practices.

The most important duties of the role are:

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining automated test scripts for mobile, in-vehicle, backend and web-based applications.
  • Building reusable, scalable and maintainable automated test suites using modern testing frameworks and tools.
  • Translating functional and non-functional requirements into test plans, test cases and automation strategies.
  • Participating in design and architecture discussions to ensure testability and quality are embedded early.
  • Developing automation using technologies such as TypeScript, C#, .NET, Python and PowerShell.
  • Executing testing activities across the SDLC, including defect identification, triage, root cause analysis and verification of fixes.
  • Using engineering tools such as issue tracking systems, source control, CI/CD pipelines and test management tools.
  • Collaborating effectively with developers, product owners and other stakeholders in cross-functional teams.
  • Estimating testing effort, evaluating new testing tools and recommending improvements to testing and automation processes.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across development, automation and quality practices.

About You

What you'll bring to the role:

  • 35 years experience in software testing, test automation or software development, supported by a relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Strong hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks, including behaviour-driven development using Gherkin and tools such as SpecFlow or ReqNRoll.
  • Proficiency with UI automation tools such as Selenium, Playwright, Ranorex or similar.
  • Working knowledge of AI platforms and how to use them for expediting the creation, maintenance, and implementation of test scripts is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of SDLC methodologies, CI/CD practices and tools such as Jenkins, Git/Mercurial and Azure DevOps.
  • Experience using Jira for defect tracking and test progress reporting.
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Linux environments and familiarity with relational databases such as Postgres.
  • A strong analytical mindset, high initiative and the ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly, including emerging AI-assisted testing approaches.
  • Excellent communication, time-management and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
