The Manager, Brewing is responsible for managing and supervising the daily brewing operations within the brewery. This role ensures efficient production processes, consistent product quality, adherence to safety and regulatory standards, and effective management of brewing personnel. The Brewing Manager oversees the brewing process from raw material preparation to fermentation while optimizing production efficiency and maintaining brewing standards.
Responsibilities and Duties
Brewing Operations Management
- Manage daily brewing activities including milling, mashing, lautering, boiling, fermentation, conditioning, and filtration processes.
- Ensure brewing operations are executed according to approved recipes, process parameters, and production schedules.
- Monitor brewing performance metrics such as yield, fermentation efficiency, and batch consistency.
- Coordinate brewing schedules to meet production targets and demand forecasts.
- Ensure the production of consistent, high-quality products, with support from the Laboratory.
Production Planning & Efficiency
- Plan and manage brewing production schedules in coordination with packaging and supply chain teams.
- Optimize resource utilization including raw materials, labor, and brewing capacity.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce production losses.
- Monitor brewing KPIs such as production output, downtime, and product yield.
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise brewers, assistant brewers, and brewing technicians.
- Provide training and technical guidance to brewing staff.
- Manage team performance, scheduling, and operational discipline.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Equipment & Maintenance Coordination
- Ensure brewing equipment operates efficiently and safely.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs with the engineering or maintenance department.
- Ensure proper cleaning and sanitation of brewing systems (CIP processes).
Inventory & Raw Material Management
- Monitor inventory levels of brewing ingredients such as malt, hops, yeast, and adjuncts.
- Coordinate with procurement and warehouse teams to ensure timely availability of raw materials.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of brewing ingredients.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Brewing Science, Food Science, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology, or related field.
- Professional brewing certification is an advantage.
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in brewing or beverage manufacturing.
- At least 2–3 years in a supervisory or managerial role within a brewery or beverage production environment.
