The successful candidate will also contribute to and coordinate agreed regional AFC initiatives, working across Southeast Asia markets to drive sector priorities, commercial outcomes and trade diversification objectives.
The candidate will have strong business English communication skills and a passion for business development and building trusted relationships with stakeholders and clients. We are looking for people with a strong commercial background, established networks and experience working within the Indonesian AFC ecosystem.
Working closely with Australian AFC clients, the BDM will create action plans for Australian businesses which may include providing advice on market entry and growth strategies, regulatory requirements for export to Indonesia, facilitating introductions to industry, customers and partners, and providing bespoke support that results in clients winning new business in Indonesia.
Reporting to the relevant Trade and Investment Commissioner to Indonesia, the position operates within Austrade Southeast Asia's matrix operating model and works collaboratively across market, sector, diversification programs and enabling function teams to deliver regional AFC priorities. The role is expected to operate effectively and collaboratively with Austrade Business Development and program teams, relevant in-market State and Territory representatives, peak industry bodies and Australia-based Austrade teams.
Duties include
- Provide Austrade trade services to Australian AFC exporters, including accurate specialist advice on scoping, entering and expanding in the Indonesian market, including:

– developing and managing client meetings and visit programs.
- Undertake market research and analysis to inform advice, planning and decisions on complex or escalated issues, emerging opportunities, risks, policy developments and regulatory changes relevant to the AFC sector.
- Provide accurate specialist advice to clients and Austrade colleagues and develop and deliver approaches that increase Australian exporters awareness of these matters.
- Develop a strong understanding of Australian, and individual client, products and capabilities. Deliver compelling presentations to customers, partners and industry stakeholders to promote client products and capabilities, and Austrade's services and value proposition to clients and partners.
- Develop and manage relationships with key business and industry contacts, government and other stakeholders in Indonesia to achieve client, work-area and agency outcomes. This will include industries relevant to Australia's AFC interests in Indonesia, including (but not limited to) wine, dairy, packaged and consumer products, as well as broader strategic agribusiness opportunities.
- Support the development and delivery of trade diversification and promotional events in Indonesia. Contribute to, and coordinate delivery of, regional strategic initiatives across Southeast Asia, supporting sector priorities, diversification objectives, cross-market collaboration and commercial outcomes for Australian exporters.
- Collaborate with Austrade's Indonesia office and members of the Austrade regional network and state government representatives.
- Build and maintain productive networks with key business, industry and government stakeholders, anticipate and respond to stakeholder needs, and facilitate cooperation to achieve client, work-area and agency outcomes.
- Take responsibility for achieving individual and team key performance indicators, set priorities and monitor progress, and exercise sound judgement within delegated authority. Escalate matters with broader agency, financial or reputational implications as appropriate.
- Identify, assess and manage commercial, operational and reputational risks associated with client engagements, projects and business development activities.
