Job Description

The Chemist is responsible to support the Quality Manager in managing activities related to quality control and quality assurance for raw materials, in-process materials, clinker, and cement. Key deliverables are to make available quality information that is timely and reliable which enable prompt action be taken on elements affecting product quality during the production process as well as the quality of the finished goods. The incumbent is a part of the team rendering technical support to external customers with regards to functionality of our products.

Job Functions:

  1. Supervise lab personnel on lab operation, maintenance and calibration of lab equipment, usage and storage of chemical, cleanliness of equipment and laboratory and workplace safety.
  2. Produce laboratory monthly reports to provide an overview of lab operations.
  3. Ensure the control parameters of processes and raw materials are set according to the prescribed limits.
  4. Ensure in-process inspection, testing and preparation of standard solutions are carried out according to requirements (ie. schedule, standards and proportions of materials).
  5. Analyses test results to determine conformity.
  6. Perform daily checks on the quality condition of raw materials to identify problems and collaborate with Operations to mitigate the possible impacts to the manufacturing process.
  7. Co-manage lab expenses within the budget.
  8. Responsible for sending raw materials/cement sample for testing by RDC/external party.
  9. Generate charts and benchmarking reports supported with analysis and recommendations to meet the Quality objectives set by the company such as Consistent Cement Quality (CON-CQ)
  10. Attend to enquiries, audits and complaints from both internal and external customers on matters related to this job scope.
  11. Assist the Radiation Protection Officer in managing the operation of the x-ray machine.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.Sc.) in Chemistry or related field.
  • At least 2 years of working experience in a laboratory or equivalent environment, preferably with knowledge of construction materials such as cement, clinker, raw materials and concrete.
  • Certification as Radiation Protection Officer (RPO) will be an added advantage.
  • Good knowledge of chemical analysis, sampling techniques and testing procedures.
  • Familiarity with ISO laboratory standards, quality control procedures and documentation practices.
  • Ability to analyze test results, interpret data and prepare technical reports.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices, chemical handling and environmental regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting and data analysis.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills to work closely with production and quality teams.
  • Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision.
