Overview
We are seeking an accomplished and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the finance function of a well-established General Takaful operator. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and working closely with the Board of Directors, Board Audit Committee, Board Risk Committee, and senior management team, the CFO will play a pivotal role in driving financial sustainability, capital efficiency, regulatory compliance, and long-term value creation.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of finance, financial reporting, taxation, capital management, investment finance oversight, corporate planning, and regulatory compliance while supporting business growth within a highly regulated takaful environment.
This role requires a commercially astute leader with strong experience in insurance/takaful finance, regulatory frameworks, risk management, and strategic transformation.
Job Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Partner with the CEO and Executive Management in formulating and executing the Company's strategic and financial plans
- Provide financial insights and strategic recommendations to support business growth, profitability, and operational excellence
- Lead the development of long-term financial strategies, capital optimisation initiatives, and sustainable value creation plans
- Evaluate strategic investments, mergers, partnerships, and business expansion opportunities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee all finance and accounting functions including financial reporting, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, taxation, and financial controls
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of statutory and regulatory financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements
- Deliver insightful financial analysis and performance reporting to Management, Board Committees, and regulators
- Drive financial discipline and accountability across the organisation
Takaful Funds & Capital Management
- Oversee the financial management of Participants Risk Funds (PRF), Participants Investment Funds (PIF), and Shareholders Fund
- Ensure appropriate monitoring of fund performance, surplus management, qard requirements, and fund solvency
- Lead capital planning initiatives to maintain adequate capital position and support business growth
- Monitor capital adequacy, liquidity, re-takaful arrangements, and financial sustainability metrics
Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
- Ensure full compliance with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) requirements, Islamic Financial Services Act (IFSA), Risk-Based Capital Framework, and other relevant regulatory obligations
- Act as the primary finance liaison with regulators, external auditors, tax authorities, and other external stakeholders
- Support regulatory submissions, financial disclosures, and governance-related reporting requirements
- Ensure strong internal controls and effective financial governance practices
Enterprise Risk & Governance
- Support the implementation of robust risk management and governance frameworks
- Collaborate closely with Risk Management, Compliance, Internal Audit, and Shariah functions to ensure effective oversight
- Provide financial risk perspectives on underwriting performance, investment activities, reserve adequacy, and business operations
- Foster a strong culture of integrity, accountability, and risk awareness
Investment & Treasury Oversight
- Work closely with investment management teams in monitoring investment performance, asset allocation, and liquidity management
- Ensure investments comply with approved mandates, risk appetite, and Shariah requirements
- Optimise treasury operations and cash flow management to support operational and strategic objectives
Transformation & Operational Excellence
- Lead finance transformation initiatives including automation, digitalisation, data analytics, and process optimisation
- Strengthen financial systems, reporting capabilities, and management information frameworks
- Drive continuous improvement to enhance organisational efficiency and decision-making
.Leadership & Talent Developmen
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team
- Build succession pipelines and strengthen organisational capabilities within the finance function
- Promote collaboration across business units to achieve corporate objectives
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related discipline
- Professional accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CPA, MICPA, CIMA, or equivalent
- MBA or Master's degree will be an added advantage
- Minimum 15 years of progressive finance leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a senior executive or CFO capacity
- Strong experience within insurance, takaful, financial services, or regulated financial institution
- Demonstrated experience dealing with regulatory bodies, auditors, Board Committees, and senior stakeholder
- Proven track record in financial strategy, capital management, financial governance, and business transformation
