We are building a digital insurer and takaful operator from scratch - from BNM application, regulatory approval and operational readiness to product launch and scale.
This is not a traditional corporate CTO role. We need a hands-on technology builder who can design the technology foundation, work with regulators and business leaders, build the founding tech team, and launch a trusted, compliant, digitally native insurance and takaful platform.
The Mission
Build the technology, data, cybersecurity and automation foundation for Malaysia's first world-class digital insurer and takaful operator - from licence application to launch, then scale it into a trusted, efficient and technology-led financial institution.
What You'll Own
- Build the technology strategy, architecture and execution roadmap for the DITO business.
- Own core systems across quote, underwriting, policy issuance, endorsements, claims, payments, customer servicing and reporting.
- Lead technology readiness for BNM application, operational readiness, cybersecurity, data governance, business continuity and vendor oversight.
- Decide what to build, buy or partner for core insurance systems, policy administration, claims, CRM, data and automation.
- Build secure, auditable and scalable systems that support regulatory, Shariah, actuarial, finance, compliance and operational requirements.
- Recruit and lead the founding technology team across engineering, DevOps, QA, data, cybersecurity and automation.
- Use AI and automation practically to reduce manual work, improve customer experience, strengthen controls and support long-term scale.
- What We're Looking For
- Proven CTO, Head of Engineering, technology leader or senior technical builder in fintech, insurtech, insurance, banking, payments or regulated platforms.
- Strong technical depth across architecture, backend systems, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, data and integrations.
- Experience building or operating systems that require reliability, auditability, controls and operational discipline.
- Able to work directly with regulators, Board, CEO, compliance, risk, auditors, actuaries, Shariah advisors and senior stakeholders.
- Strong judgement on build vs buy, vendor selection, security, scalability, technical risk and delivery trade-offs.
- Hands-on enough to build the first version personally before hiring a full team.
- Calm under pressure, low ego, highly accountable and comfortable with ambiguity.
