CLASSIC CAR MECHANICS & ENGINE BUILDERS WANTED

Bufori Motor Car Company is looking for highly competent and experienced classic car mechanics and engine builders to join our specialist automotive restoration team in Malaysia.

We require people who genuinely understand traditional engines and can independently rebuild, assemble, commission and tune a complete classic car engine, including its carburettors, distributor and ignition system.

Candidates must be experienced in:

• Completely dismantling and properly assessing engines

• Measuring bores, crankshafts, bearings, pistons, rings, valves and other critical components

• Determining which components can be reused, reconditioned or must be replaced

• Coordinating machining work and verifying its accuracy before assembly

• Rebuilding cylinder heads, valve trains, bottom ends and complete engines

• Correctly setting bearing, piston, ring and valve clearances

• Setting camshaft timing, ignition timing, tappets and valve clearances

• Rebuilding, setting up and tuning carburettors

• Working with SU, Weber, Stromberg, Solex and similar carburettors

• Balancing and synchronising multiple carburettor systems

• Setting float levels, fuel pressure, jets, needles, chokes and mixtures

• Diagnosing rich or lean running, hesitation, poor starting, misfiring and fuel starvation

• Setting contact points, dwell angles and ignition timing

• Rebuilding and setting up distributors, coils and condensers

• Checking mechanical and vacuum advance systems and distributor advance curves

• Starting, commissioning, running-in, road testing and final tuning

Applicants must also be capable of diagnosing low oil pressure, overheating, smoke, excessive oil consumption, abnormal engine noises, poor compression, misfiring and loss of performance.

We need mechanics who understand how the complete engine, carburettors, fuel delivery and ignition systems work together. Candidates must be able to identify the actual cause of a problem and carry out a correct and lasting repair.

This is not a routine servicing or parts-replacement position. It requires genuine old-school mechanical knowledge, practical engine-building experience and the ability to diagnose faults without depending on modern diagnostic scanners.

Experience with British, European, American or Japanese classic cars would be highly regarded.

Experienced, retired or semi-retired engine builders are also encouraged to apply.
