Job Description

Commercial & Business Development Manager

VIRTUVO | Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Build a distinctive furniture brand. Develop meaningful relationships. Create long-term market opportunities.

About VIRTUVO

VIRTUVO is a Malaysian design-led furniture brand offering thoughtfully designed, well-engineered furniture with international design sensibility and attainable pricing.

We believe the best products are thoughtfully resolved in every detail, including the details people never notice. Our ambition is to develop a distinctive collection of furniture that is sought out by leading architects, interior designers, project clients and furniture dealers in Malaysia and international markets.

We work closely with True North, our manufacturing and product development partner, which supports product engineering, sourcing and production throughout Asia.

We are looking for an experienced, commercially minded and design-conscious individual to lead VIRTUVO's commercial development and help build the next stage of the brand.

The opportunity

This is a key position for someone who enjoys building relationships, identifying opportunities and developing a business over the long term.

You will take ownership of VIRTUVO's commercial activities, working directly with the company's leadership to develop the market, strengthen relationships with architects and interior designers, grow project sales and progressively establish an international dealer network.

This is not simply a conventional sales position. We are looking for someone who understands design-led products, appreciates the importance of long-term relationships and can combine commercial judgement with a genuine interest in furniture and interiors.

Key responsibilities

Business development and relationships

  • Develop and maintain long-term relationships with leading architects, interior designers, project clients, developers and furniture dealers.
  • Proactively identify new projects, customer opportunities and potential business partnerships.
  • Build VIRTUVO's presence among the Malaysian design and architecture community.
  • Develop a structured sales pipeline, with clear opportunity qualification, follow-up and conversion plans.
  • Represent VIRTUVO professionally in client meetings, presentations, industry events and showroom activities.

Sales and commercial management

  • Take ownership of VIRTUVO's sales pipeline, proposals, quotations, negotiations and commercial results.
  • Prepare customer quotations for standard products using the established master price list, with support from L where appropriate.
  • Work with True North when projects involve product customisation, engineering, special sourcing or completely custom products.
  • Develop commercially sound proposals, ensuring appropriate margins, clear specifications and realistic delivery commitments.
  • Qualify opportunities carefully and allocate time and resources to projects with genuine potential.
  • Manage customer relationships from initial enquiry through order confirmation and ongoing account development.

Brand and market development

  • Work with the company's leadership to develop and implement VIRTUVO's commercial and marketing strategy.
  • Strengthen VIRTUVO's brand visibility through effective catalogues, presentations, email marketing, social media and direct engagement with the design community.
  • Gather market intelligence, customer feedback and insights into emerging design and product requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for developing VIRTUVO's own product collection.
  • Participate in discussions with the CEO and Managing Director about which new products should be developed and introduced.
  • Over time, develop relationships with suitable international dealers and build a sustainable export business.

Internal coordination

  • Work closely with the Managing Director on product feasibility, technical issues and operational commitments.
  • Coordinate with True North for custom product costing, engineering input, factory quotations and development requirements.
  • Work with L and the True North operations team to ensure accurate order information, delivery coordination and customer follow-up.
  • Provide regular reports on pipeline, sales, margins, market development and key customer relationships.
Requirements
  • Ideally 8–15 years of relevant experience in B2B sales, business development, account management or commercial management.
  • Experience in furniture, interior design, architectural products, workplace solutions or a related design-led industry is strongly preferred.
  • Established relationships with architects, interior designers, developers, project clients or furniture dealers would be a significant advantage.
  • A genuine appreciation for furniture design, materials, product quality and well-resolved details.
  • Strong commercial judgement, including the ability to qualify projects, manage margins and negotiate professionally.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities and follow through on commitments.
  • Comfortable working in a small, entrepreneurial business where initiative and ownership are important.
  • Proficiency in English; Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin would be advantageous.
  • A relevant degree or diploma in business, marketing, interior design, architecture or a related discipline is desirable, but demonstrated ability and experience are more important.
What we offer
  • A key role in shaping the future of a growing Malaysian furniture brand.
  • Direct access to company leadership and involvement in strategic and product development decisions.
  • The opportunity to work with a capable Asian manufacturing and engineering network.
  • A competitive salary, performance-related incentive and benefits, commensurate with experience.

To apply: Please submit your CV together with a brief introduction outlining your relevant experience, key client or industry relationships, and why you are interested in helping build VIRTUVO.
