Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery of a hyperscale/enterprise Data Center project in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and executing commissioning and completions activities across mechanical, electrical, and control systems to ensure safe, compliant, and high-performance facility operations.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning & Completions
- Develop, review, and implement commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules.
- Manage end-to-end commissioning activities,
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, consultants, and client stakeholders.
- Lead system walkdowns, punch listing, and closure management.
- Oversee completions tracking systems and turnover documentation.
- Validate that all systems meet project specifications and operational requirements.
- Support reliability, performance, and redundancy testing for critical systems.
Technical Oversight
- Commission and validate systems including:
MV/LV electrical systems
UPS systems
Generators
Switchgear
Chillers & CRAH/CRAC units
Cooling towers
Fire protection systems
BMS/EPMS systems
- Ensure compliance with local Malaysian regulations and international standards.
- Identify and resolve technical issues during commissioning phases.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure commissioning activities adhere to HSE standards and site safety procedures.
- Participate in risk assessments and method statement reviews.
- Ensure documentation accuracy for handover and operations.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as the technical interface between project delivery and operations teams.
- Support client inspections and audits.
- Provide commissioning reports and progress updates to project management
Mandatory Requirements
- Minimum 7 years of experience in construction projects
- Minimum 5 years of experience specifically in commissioning and/or completions
- Industrial-type construction experience is required (e.g., power plants, oil & gas facilities, manufacturing plants, large infrastructure projects)
- Data Center industry experience is preferred but not compulsory
- Strong knowledge of MEP systems in mission-critical or industrial environments
- Experience working on large-scale construction projects
- Familiarity with commissioning management tools and documentation systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or related discipline)
- Experience in mission-critical environments
- Knowledge of Tier standards (Uptime Institute) is advantageous
- Experience in integrated systems testing (IST)
- Strong coordination and leadership skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
