Job Description

Role: Commissioning Engineer (Substation)

Key Responsibilities

1. Commissioning Planning & Leadership

  • Ensure commissioning and startup activities for HV substation systems.
  • Develop commissioning plans including schedules, manpower allocation, resource requirements, and budgets.
  • Ensure commissioning procedures follow industry standards and project specifications.
  • Drive continuous improvement in testing, safety, and quality practices.

2. Technical Execution

  • Oversee system inspections, functional tests, performance tests, and system energization.
  • Manage Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate resolutions with engineering teams.
  • Verify the performance of equipment including switchgear, transformers, protection systems, SCADA, and communication systems.

3. Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate commissioning documentation including test reports, checklists, logs, and approvals.
  • Ensure all works comply with utility requirements, local regulations, and internal quality standards.
  • Prepare final commissioning reports and handover packages.

4. Stakeholder Coordination

  • Liaise with contractors, consultants, utility providers, and project teams to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Conduct commissioning meetings, provide progress updates, and highlight risks or issues.
  • Facilitate official signoff and system acceptance with clients and authorities.

5. Safety & Risk Management

  • Enforce safe work practices during testing and energization.
  • Conduct safety assessments, risk evaluations, and method statement reviews.
  • Ensure all personnel follow electrical safety procedures.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering related engineering discipline.
  • Professional certification in testing/commissioning is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Typically 3 8 years experience in HV substation commissioning.
  • Strong background in testing protection relays, SCADA integration, transformers, HV switchgear, and associated systems.
  • Experience working on utility, industrial, or largescale infrastructure power projects.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong technical troubleshooting ability.
  • Excellent documentation and reporting skills.
  • Familiarity with electrical test instruments and power system standards.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
