Job Description

Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Compliance Officer to support the Head of Compliance in maintaining and developing Client's Group compliance program. The role will focus primarily on sanctions, export controls, anti-bribery and anti-corruption (ABAC), and data protection, while supporting third-party risk management and integrity risk assessment activities across the Group's multinational operations.

You will provide practical, risk-based compliance advice to business units and Group companies, ensuring that applicable legal and regulatory requirements are understood, implemented, and consistently applied across international operations. The role will also contribute to the development and improvement of compliance policies, procedures, screening processes, internal controls, training, and governance practices.

The Compliance Officer will work closely with Legal, Commercial, Procurement, Finance, HR, IT, Operations, and regional management to identify and mitigate compliance risks, address regulatory developments, and support effective decision-making. You will also assist with internal reviews, investigations, remediation activities, and the maintenance of clear, auditable compliance records.

This is a key role within the Group Compliance function, requiring strong technical knowledge of international compliance regulations, sound judgment, excellent drafting skills, and the ability to translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical business guidance within a multinational and operationally complex environment.

Key Responsibilities

Sanctions and Export Controls

1. Provide day-to-day advice on sanctions and export control matters across the Group's global operations, including customer, vessel, supplier, country, end-use, and end-user risk assessments.

2. Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of sanctions and export control policies, procedures, screening processes, escalation routes, and recordkeeping practices.

3. Assist with export classification, licensing requirements, restricted-party screening, and transaction reviews in collaboration with Legal, Commercial, Procurement, Logistics, and Operations.

4. Monitor relevant international sanctions and export control developments and translate regulatory changes into practical guidance and recommendations for the business.

5. Identify potential compliance risks and support appropriate escalation, mitigation, and documentation of decisions.

Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption (ABAC)

1. Provide practical advice on anti-bribery and anti-corruption risks across the Group's multinational operations, including gifts and hospitality, facilitation payments, intermediaries, public officials, conflicts of interest, sponsorships, and donations.

2. Apply working knowledge of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the UK Bribery Act, and other relevant anti-corruption requirements when advising stakeholders and supporting compliance policies, procedures, training, and risk assessments.

3. Support the identification, assessment, and mitigation of ABAC risks across business activities, jurisdictions, and third-party relationships.

4. Assist with internal reviews, investigations, and remediation activities relating to potential ABAC concerns, including documenting findings, identifying control gaps, and recommending corrective actions.

5. Support the development and delivery of compliance communications and training to promote awareness of anti-bribery and anti-corruption requirements across the Group.

Data Protection and GDPR

1. Provide guidance on GDPR and applicable data protection requirements affecting the Group's operations, information systems, suppliers, and group companies.

2. Support privacy impact assessments, data processing agreements, international data transfer assessments, and privacy-by-design reviews.

3. Assist business stakeholders in addressing data protection queries and identifying appropriate measures to manage privacy risks.

4. Maintain and update privacy governance documents, policies, guidance materials, training resources, and records of processing activities.

5. Support the implementation and continuous improvement of data protection controls and practices to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Group Compliance Program Support

1. Support the Head of Compliance in maintaining and developing the Group's compliance program, including policies, procedures, training materials, communications, and internal controls.

2. Provide practical, risk-based compliance advice to business units and group companies, balancing legal and regulatory requirements with operational needs.

3. Prepare clear and well-structured written advice, compliance risk assessments, decision records, and management updates.

4. Assist with the implementation, communication, and monitoring of compliance policies and procedures across the Group.

5. Support compliance monitoring activities and identify opportunities to strengthen governance, improve controls, and enhance the effectiveness of the compliance program.

Third-Party Risk Management

1. Provide support for third-party risk management activities, including risk screening, integrity due diligence, escalation reviews, and mitigation planning for higher-risk third parties.

2. Assist with sanctions, ABAC, ownership, adverse media, and conflict-of-interest reviews to identify potential integrity risks associated with third-party relationships.

3. Support the assessment and escalation of higher-risk third parties, ensuring that appropriate risk mitigation measures and approval processes are followed.

4. Maintain complete and auditable case files, due diligence records, and decision documentation for third-party approvals and escalations.

5. Work with relevant stakeholders to support consistent application of third-party risk management requirements across the Group.

Integrity Risk Assessment

1. Assist with the Group's annual integrity risk assessment, including risk scoping, stakeholder engagement, data gathering, analysis, documentation, and follow-up of agreed actions.

2. Identify and assess integrity risks across jurisdictions, business lines, and group companies, with particular focus on bribery, corruption, sanctions, export controls, and third-party exposure.

3. Engage with relevant business stakeholders to gather information, understand operational risk exposures, and evaluate the effectiveness of existing controls.

4. Support the preparation of risk assessment reports, documentation of key findings, and recommendations for appropriate risk mitigation measures.

5. Track agreed remediation actions and follow up with relevant stakeholders to support timely implementation and continuous improvement.

Compliance Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation

1. Maintain accurate and well-organised compliance records, including risk assessments, screening results, investigation documentation, training records, and management decisions.

2. Prepare compliance reports, summaries, and updates for the Head of Compliance and relevant management stakeholders.

3. Support internal reviews, compliance monitoring, and control assessments to evaluate adherence to policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

4. Identify recurring compliance issues, emerging risks, and opportunities for improvement, and recommend appropriate corrective or preventive actions.

5. Ensure that compliance advice, escalations, and decisions are properly documented to support transparency, accountability, and audit readiness.

Continuous Improvement and Stakeholder Engagement

1. Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, consistency, and effectiveness of compliance processes, controls, and governance practices.

2. Collaborate with Legal, Commercial, Procurement, Finance, HR, IT, Operations, and regional management to embed compliance requirements into relevant business processes.

3. Support the development of practical compliance guidance, standardised procedures, and training initiatives to improve awareness and strengthen compliance culture.

4. Monitor emerging regulatory requirements and industry practices and recommend enhancements to the Group's compliance framework where appropriate.

5. Promote a proactive, risk-based approach to compliance and support the consistent application of compliance standards across the Group.

Essential Requirements

1. Advanced degree in Law, Business, Risk Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.

2. 5–10 years of relevant post-qualification or equivalent experience in compliance, legal, or regulatory advisory roles.

3. Demonstrable experience in sanctions and export controls, anti-bribery and anti-corruption (ABAC), and practical GDPR/data protection advisory.

4. Strong working knowledge of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), UK Bribery Act, GDPR, and relevant international compliance regulations.

5. Experience in compliance risk assessments, third-party due diligence, internal reviews, investigations, or compliance monitoring.
