  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in electrical (eg. electrical testing equipment or electrical distribution) in industrial or commercial environment.
  • Ability to participate in material handling tasks such as lifting, carrying or moving up to 50 lbs (23 kg) of equipment, the required use of safety equipment such as limited weight bearing work platforms, ladders, step stools and personal protective equipment like safety harnesses in accordance with safety and ergonomic guidelines and assessments.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and work rotations/shifts.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in the facilities field including operating and maintaining mission critical facilities (data centers, hospitals, pharma, semiconductor, refineries, power plants, etc.).
  • Experience with safety rules and regulations associated with operating complex infrastructure.
  • Experience working as an electrical engineer (JEK) or as a professional engineer with practicing certification or registered as an energy manager.
  • Experience with electrical components, or as a chargeman with Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST).
  • Ability to perform maintenance on electrical or controls systems and capable of independently resolving common system failures.

About The Job

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some of these duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components).

As an advocate for best practices, you develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly. In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.

As a Facilities Technician, you will operate, monitor, and support physical facilities conditions for the data centers.

In this role, you will be required to co-lead and ensure the electrical system compliance including local legal and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies. You will work to ensure electrical system reliability, and co-lead the commissioning activities on functional tests and Integrated System Test (IST). Additionally, you will manage and support electrical system operation, and co-lead the electrical system maintenance program including preparing the technical specification, procurement and maintenance vendor performance management.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for electrical system but not only limited to extra high voltage/medium voltage system's for the uptime, maintenance, operation, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical equipment in a data center environment.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for service failures, implement recovery and prevention actions, and drive continuous improvement in site water usage effectiveness and power usage effectiveness to minimize environmental impact and enhance system reliability.
  • Lead and support startup, commissioning, and integration of new equipment and systems into facilities infrastructure, and coordinate vendor support for repairs and project implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with all site environmental health, safety policies, and legal requirements, while developing infrastructure knowledge and providing training to the team.
  • Maintain operational availability by working rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
