Job Description

Scope of Work (SOW)

Provide end-to-end database administration, operations, and support across enterprise database platforms:

  • Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL)
  • MySQL
  • Oracle Database

Technical Responsibilities

  • Administer, configure, and maintain MSSQL, MySQL, and Oracle databases in production and non-production environments.
  • Perform proactive database performance monitoring, analysis, and tuning (query optimization, indexing strategies, execution plans, wait statistics).
  • Design, implement, and support database backup, recovery, and high availability solutions (e.g., SQL Server Always On, Oracle Data Guard, MySQL Replication).
  • Manage database security, including user access, roles, permissions, and auditing.
  • Troubleshoot complex database incidents, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and implement preventive measures.
  • Execute database patching, upgrades, and version maintenance in line with vendor and organizational best practices.
  • Support disaster recovery (DR) planning, testing, and execution.
  • Monitor database capacity, storage growth, and resource utilization; provide recommendations for optimization.
  • Automate routine DBA tasks using scripts (T-SQL, PL/SQL, Shell, or PowerShell where applicable).
  • Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and DevOps teams to ensure database reliability and performance.
  • Provide on-call / L2L3 production support as required.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience with MSSQL, MySQL, and Oracle database administration.
  • Deep understanding of database internals, architecture, and performance tuning techniques.
  • Experience with HA/DR architectures and failover mechanisms.
  • Proficiency in backup and recovery strategies (RMAN, native SQL Server tools, MySQL utilities).
  • Experience with database monitoring tools and alerting frameworks.
  • Knowledge of OS-level performance (Linux/Windows) impacting database workloads.
  • Familiarity with ITIL-based incident, problem, and change management processes.

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to cloud-based database platforms (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Oracle Cloud).
  • Experience with database migrations and upgrades across versions or engines.
  • Relevant certifications (Microsoft, Oracle, MySQL).
