Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
To lead UEM Sunrise's government relations and public affairs agenda by building strategic relationships with federal and state government stakeholders as well as government agencies, strengthening the Company's access to policymakers and regulators, and translating policy intelligence into business opportunities that support the Company's long-term growth strategy.
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
Government Relations & Strategic Engagement
- Develop and execute UEM Sunrise's government relations and public affairs strategy in alignment with the Company's business priorities.
- Develop and maintain an annual Government Engagement Strategy and Stakeholder Engagement Calendar aligned with UEM Sunrise's business priorities, launches, approvals and strategic initiatives.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with key federal, state and local government stakeholders, ministries, agencies, GLCs, local authorities and industry bodies.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen UEM Sunrise's strategic positioning through meaningful engagement with policymakers and government decision-makers.
- Represent the Company at strategic engagements, forums, working groups, roundtables and industry consultations.
Stakeholder Intelligence & Mapping
- Develop, maintain and continuously enhance the Company's strategic stakeholder map, identifying key decision-makers, influencers, policy owners and strategic relationships across government, regulators, industry associations and related organisations.
- Act as custodian of the stakeholder intelligence database, ensuring engagement history, stakeholder priorities, influence networks and relationship insights remain current, accurate and actionable.
- Monitor stakeholder movements, appointments, policy priorities and organisational changes to identify emerging engagement opportunities and business implications.
Policy Intelligence & Strategic Advisory
- Monitor emerging government policies, legislation, regulatory developments and national priorities that may impact UEM Sunrise.
- Translate policy developments into practical business insights, advising senior management on risks, opportunities and engagement strategies.
- Support the development of policy positions, briefing papers, submissions and strategic messaging for engagements with government stakeholders.
Strategic Opportunity Creation
- Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships, collaborations and government-led initiatives that support UEM Sunrise's business objectives.
- Work closely with Strategic Stakeholder Management, Business Development, Strategy and Business Units to connect stakeholder engagement with commercial opportunities, approvals and long-term growth.
Executive & Corporate Positioning
- Develop engagement strategies, briefing materials and key messages for senior management's interactions with government stakeholders.
- Coordinate ministerial visits, executive engagements, policy dialogues and strategic forums that strengthen UEM Sunrise's corporate reputation and thought leadership.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Partner with Strategic Communications & Media Relations, Strategic Corporate Branding, Corporate Events & CSR, Strategic Stakeholder Management and business units to ensure a coordinated approach to stakeholder engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS & TECHNICAL COMPETENCES
Formal Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy, Political Science, International Relations, Public Administration, Business Administration, Law, Communications or other related discipline.
- Professional certifications in Government Relations, Public Affairs, Public Policy, Corporate Affairs or Stakeholder Management would be an added advantage.
- A Master's Degree in Public Policy, International Relations, Business Administration (MBA) or a related field would be an added advantage
Work Experience
- 10 - 15 years experience in Government Relations, Public Affairs, Corporate Affairs, Public Policy, Stakeholder Engagement or Corporate Communications.
- Experience within government, GLCs, regulators or industries involving extensive government engagement will be highly advantageous.
- Established network across relevant federal, state and local government stakeholders, ministries, regulators, agencies and industry bodies.
