Title: Director, Indirect Procurement – Asia
Location: Penang, Malaysia
Our client is a leading global medical device multinational renowned for its innovation, quality, and commitment to improving patient outcomes worldwide.
As the organization continues to expand across Asia, they are seeking a Director, Indirect Procurement – Asiato lead regional procurement strategy, strengthen commercial partnerships, and drive operational excellence across the indirect spend portfolio.
This is a high-impact regional role for a commercially astute procurement leader who thrives in a complex, matrixed environment. As a strategic individual contributor, you will partner with senior business leaders across multiple countries to optimize procurement performance, enhance supplier value, mitigate supply risk, and deliver sustainable cost efficiencies. You will also play a key role in aligning regional procurement initiatives with global governance, digital transformation, and ESG objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute regional category strategies across all indirect spend categories, ensuring alignment with global procurement objectives while supporting business growth across Asia.
- Lead complex commercial negotiations for high-value contracts, master service agreements, and strategic supplier engagements to achieve optimal commercial outcomes and minimize business risk.
- Build and manage strategic supplier relationships, driving supplier performance, innovation, continuous improvement, and long-term value creation through robust governance and performance reviews.
- Partner closely with executive stakeholders, functional leaders, and manufacturing sites across the region to provide strategic procurement insights, market intelligence, and visibility into spend, sourcing opportunities, and savings pipelines.
- Champion cost optimization and working capital improvement initiatives while ensuring uninterrupted business operations and supply continuity across regional manufacturing and commercial sites.
- Collaborate with Global Category Leaders to implement procurement best practices, digital procurement solutions, supplier risk management frameworks, and sustainability initiatives across the region.
- Lead strategic sourcing initiatives supporting regional expansion, business transformation, and operational excellence projects across multiple countries.
- Identify market trends, emerging supplier capabilities, and commercial risks, translating these insights into proactive sourcing strategies that strengthen business competitiveness.
- Influence cross-functional teams within a highly matrixed organization, driving alignment and delivering procurement outcomes without direct reporting authority
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline. An MBA or postgraduate qualification would be advantageous.
- 10–15 years of progressive procurement experience with significant exposure to indirect procurement within a global multinational organization. Experience in the Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, Life Sciences, Electronics, or Advanced Manufacturing sectors will be highly regarded.
- Demonstrated success in developing and executing regional category strategies, leading strategic sourcing initiatives, and negotiating complex commercial agreements across multiple Asian markets.
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and deliver results in a matrixed organization as a strategic individual contributor.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience in supplier relationship management, contract negotiation, spend optimization, supplier risk management, and procurement transformation.
- Experience leveraging enterprise procurement platforms such as SAP, Ariba, or Coupa, together with strong analytical capabilities in spend analysis and procurement performance reporting.
- Professional certifications such as CIPS, CPSM, Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent are advantageous.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build credibility across diverse cultures and functions.
