Job Description

About M Hill Hotel

M Hill Hotel is the newest and most ambitious project by M Boutique Hotel Collective - a homegrown hospitality brand recognised for its design-led spaces, strong brand identity, and creative approach to hospitality.

Scheduled to open in the 1st Quarter of 2027, M Hill Hotel represents our first serious and modern hotel concept - a defining step forward for the brand and for the hospitality landscape of Ipoh.

With 270 Deluxe Rooms, comprehensive banqueting facilities for up to 500 guests, two meeting rooms, a 180-seat all-day dining coffeehouse, and a rooftop specialty restaurant, M Hill is conceived as a new destination for business, events, dining, and contemporary urban stays.

Built with intention, personality, and contemporary sophistication, M Hill will set a new benchmark for urban hospitality in the region.

This is not a routine hotel opening.

This is culture-building at scale.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Director of Sales & Marketing to lead the pre-opening sales, marketing, and commercial development of a new premium business hotel in Ipoh.

The successful candidate will play a key role in establishing the hotel's market positioning, building its corporate client base, securing pre-opening business, and developing sustainable revenue streams across accommodation, meetings and events, banqueting, and food and beverage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the hotel's pre-opening Sales & Marketing strategy, commercial business plan, departmental budget, and revenue forecasts.
  • Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and customer segmentation to identify business opportunities in Ipoh, Perak, and relevant regional markets.
  • Establish and develop corporate accounts, government and GLC business, negotiated room-rate agreements, travel trade partnerships, and other appropriate market segments.
  • Lead the sales strategy for the 500-seater ballroom and meeting facilities, securing conferences, corporate functions, seminars, meetings, and banqueting business.
  • Develop commercial strategies and promotional initiatives to support the coffeehouse and rooftop specialty restaurant.
  • Establish a strong sales pipeline and secure advance room bookings, corporate contracts, and event business ahead of opening.
  • Lead the development and execution of digital marketing, public relations, brand awareness, social media, and promotional campaigns.
  • Establish sales targets, performance indicators, account-management procedures, and reporting systems for the Sales & Marketing team.
  • Monitor market trends, pricing, competitor activities, revenue performance, and sales conversion to maximise commercial results.
  • Recruit, lead, coach, and develop a high-performing Sales & Marketing team.
  • Work closely with the Hotel Manager, Revenue Management, Finance, F&B, and Operations teams to ensure commercial and operational readiness for opening.

Requirements and Prerequisites

  • Diploma or degree in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related discipline. Equivalent relevant industry experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of progressive experience in hotel sales and marketing, preferably in full-service 4-star deluxe or 5-star business hotels.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a senior sales and marketing leadership role, such as DOSM, Director of Sales, or an equivalent position.
  • Previous hotel pre-opening experience is highly preferred, with demonstrated ability to establish a sales function, develop a commercial launch plan, and generate business before opening.
  • Proven track record in corporate account acquisition, negotiated corporate rates, room revenue generation, and key-account management.
  • Strong experience in MICE, conference, ballroom, banquet, and corporate event sales.
  • Good understanding of hotel revenue management, market segmentation, pricing strategy, distribution channels, and commercial forecasting.
  • Experience in digital marketing, social media, public relations, CRM, and marketing campaign evaluation.
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, presentation, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Good knowledge of the Ipoh and Perak business environment, or the ability to establish a relevant network quickly.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English. Bahasa Malaysia is strongly preferred; Mandarin and other relevant languages are an advantage.
  • Proficient in hotel sales systems, reporting tools, and standard office applications.
  • Willing to be based in Ipoh and undertake business travel and client visits as required.
