Electrical Chargeman

Role Overview

The Electrical Chargeman is responsible for supporting the safe installation, operation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical systems for data center design and build projects.

The role requires a minimum A4 Chargeman competency recognized by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Energy Commission) Malaysia and will work closely with the Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, HSE, subcontractors, vendors, and client teams to ensure electrical works are delivered safely, reliably, and in accordance with approved designs, project specifications, statutory requirements, and applicable standards.

The position will support the project throughout the design, construction, testing, commissioning, energization, and handover stages.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor electrical installation works to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and safety requirements.
• Act as the competent electrical person for applicable electrical activities in accordance with Suruhanjaya Tenaga requirements.
• Support electrical testing, commissioning, energization, and safe switching activities.
• Review electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, equipment schedules, and technical documentation from a practical and operational perspective.
• Coordinate with electrical subcontractors, vendors, engineers, commissioning teams, and other project stakeholders.
• Ensure safe electrical isolation, LOTO, permit-to-work, and energization procedures are properly implemented.
• Support the installation and commissioning of critical data center electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS, ATS/STS, busduct, cabling, and associated systems.
• Conduct site inspections and identify electrical defects, quality issues, and unsafe conditions.
• Support troubleshooting and resolution of electrical installation, testing, and commissioning issues.
• Maintain relevant electrical records, inspection reports, test results, switching records, and handover documentation.
• Participate in project meetings, toolbox meetings, safety inspections, commissioning activities, and handover activities.
• Ensure all electrical activities comply with Exyte's HSE requirements and applicable Malaysian regulations and standards.

Education and Skill

• Minimum A4 Chargeman Certificate of Competency recognized by Suruhanjaya Tenaga Malaysia.
• Certificate/Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Technology is preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant electrical experience, preferably in construction, commissioning, operation, or maintenance.
• Experience in data center, mission-critical, industrial, or large-scale commercial projects is highly preferred.
• Good knowledge of electrical distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS, ATS/STS, busduct, cabling, protection, and earthing systems.
• Able to read and understand electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and technical specifications.
• Good understanding of electrical safety, LOTO, permit-to-work, testing, commissioning, and energization procedures.
• Good troubleshooting, communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality, and compliance.
• Able to work effectively in a fast-paced construction and commissioning environment.
• Willing to work extended hours, shifts, weekends, or public holidays when required by project activities.
