UCT is looking for a talented Engineer III to join us in Malaysia!

NPI & Process Engineer

  • Provides operational and technical support related to New Product Introduction (NPI), process engineering, process development and qualification necessary to meet engineering and manufacturing requirements. Ensures new and existing products are successfully transferred, industrialized and manufactured in accordance with product specifications, quality requirements, process standards and delivery targets. Supports daily manufacturing needs as an engineering resource and proactively recommends solutions to improve product quality, manufacturability, productivity, cost and overall process performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, manage and coordinate NPI activities from product introduction through prototype, pilot build, qualification and production ramp-up.
  • Review customer drawings, specifications, BOMs, engineering requirements and applicable manufacturing standards.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing process flow, routing, work instructions, process parameters and control requirements.
  • Review supplier manufacturing processes, equipment capability, process documentation and technical proposals.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with customer requirements, company procedures and applicable industry standards.
  • Review technical documentation and identify relevant specifications, quality, process and manufacturing requirements.
  • Understand fabrication and machining drawings, GD&T, assembly requirements and applicable inspection/NDT symbols.
  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes including CNC machining, welding, orbital welding, EBW, assembly, cleaning and other applicable processes.
  • Establish and validate process parameters, tooling, fixtures, gauges, equipment and inspection requirements.
  • Prepare and support process qualification, product qualification, capability studies, DOE and validation activities.
  • Understand causes of process defects, dimensional variation, distortion, contamination, rework and
  • other manufacturing issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Understand the operation of manufacturing equipment and troubleshooting process-relate problems.
  • Use appropriate measuring and inspection equipment to monitor product dimensions, process performance and quality.
  • Support production teams in achieving consistent quality, productivity and process performance.
  • Identify root causes of manufacturing defects and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Record and maintain process qualification, engineering trial, production readiness and process capability results.
  • Advise on opportunities to improve productivity, cycle time, yield, quality and manufacturing cost.
  • Ensure tooling, fixtures, equipment and process consumables are properly controlled and maintained according to requirements.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching and technical support to junior engineers and manufacturing personnel.
  • Lead the development and improvement of manufacturing systems, processes, procedures and engineering standards.
  • Assist the Engineering Manager in identifying, developing and improving tools, equipment, automation and systems to enable effective product delivery.
  • Evaluate lessons learned from NPI and production projects and implement improvements across applicable processes and products.
  • Establish and maintain procedures for production processes and engineering activities to ensure compliance with specifications and process requirements.
  • Respond to customer, supplier and internal technical queries based on project, product and manufacturing requirements.
  • Provide technical support for engineering clarifications, deviations, concessions and change requests.
  • Perform gap analysis against relevant industry, customer and internal manufacturing standards.
  • Support capacity analysis, manpower planning, equipment requirements and manufacturing readiness for new products and production ramp-up.
  • Support equipment installation, commissioning, acceptance and process release activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Ensure engineering and manufacturing documentation is properly released, controlled and updated.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing and process engineering, with strong knowledge of CNC machining, welding, orbital welding, EBW, assembly and related manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T, materials, tolerances, inspection methods and manufacturing requirements.
  • Knowledge of process qualification, validation, PFMEA, Control Plan, SPC, DOE, 8D and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Knowledge of precision machining, welding and/or semiconductor equipment manufacturing processes is an advantage.

Educational/Certification Requirement:

  • Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, Welding Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional certification in welding, quality, Lean Manufacturing or related engineering discipline is an advantage.
  • Strong foundation and familiarity with manufacturing processes, engineering drawings, process engineering terminology and quality requirements.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in NPI, process engineering or manufacturing engineering; experience in CNC machining, welding or precision manufacturing is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational and administrative skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks, CAD/CAM or related engineering software is an advantage.

Experience Requirement: Work Experience:

  • 5+ years working in a manufacturing/production environment as an NPI, Process, Manufacturing or Quality Engineer in the same or related industry.
  • Experience in New Product Introduction, process development, qualification and production ramp-up is preferred.
  • Experience working with CNC machining, welding, orbital welding, EBW, assembly or precision manufacturing is an advantage.
  • Experience in semiconductor equipment, UHP, precision engineering or similar manufacturing industries is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of SEMI specifications/standards is an advantage.

  • Required to have visual acuity to perform assigned tasks, including inspection of components, equipment and documentation.

Environmental Exposure:

  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as applicable.
  • Subject to manufacturing hazards including electrical current, moving mechanical parts, welding operations, chemicals, machining debris and industrial equipment.
  • Required to follow all site safety, environmental and operational procedures.
  • Required to have visual acuity to perform assigned tasks

Overnight Travel: Work may require out-of-town or overseas travel depending upon assignment, including supplier visits, equipment FAT/SAT, training, NPI activities, customer meetings and engineering support.
