Job Description
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of hardware and electrical engineering solutions for complex projects.
- Support project planning activities, including scheduling, resource allocation, and execution strategies.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to global engineering teams.
- Manage project-related business responsibilities, including budgeting, financial oversight, and resource planning.
- Ensure teams have access to leading-edge tools, software, and equipment aligned with business requirements.
- Review customer specifications and serve as a key technical contact when required.
- Evaluate technical trade-offs and recommend the most effective engineering solutions.
- Develop and execute system deployment and implementation strategies.
- Lead strategic engineering initiatives and global project rollouts.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, vendors, and external partners.
- Research emerging technologies and translate concepts into practical engineering solutions.
- Design, modify, and implement hardware systems according to engineering standards and customer requirements.
- Monitor industry developments, market trends, and regulatory requirements.
- Resolve complex technical challenges through innovative problem-solving.
- Work closely with manufacturing, testing, supply chain, reliability, simulation, and industrial design teams.
- Recommend product and system improvements to enhance performance, quality, and manufacturability.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes and product development activities.
The Successful Applicant
A Successful Engineering Director, Hardware Design Should Have
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Hardware Design, Electronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 20 years of relevant engineering experience within hardware, electrical, or product development environments.
- Proven experience leading large-scale engineering projects from concept through production.
- Extensive experience managing and developing engineering teams.
- Strong leadership capabilities with experience guiding global and cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated success in project planning, execution, and resource management.
- Experience overseeing budgets, financial planning, and operational performance.
- Strong customer-facing experience, including reviewing specifications and managing technical relationships.
- Ability to analyse complex technical challenges and develop practical solutions.
- Experience working closely with manufacturing, testing, supply chain, and quality functions.
- Skilled in stakeholder management across customers, suppliers, contractors, and internal teams.
- Knowledge of industry best practices, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience leading strategic engineering initiatives and technology deployment projects.
- Background in multinational or global business environments is highly preferred.
- Strong communication, team-building, coaching, and talent development skills.
- Experience recruiting, training, and mentoring engineering professionals.
- Ability to drive innovation, continuous improvement, and long-term organisational growth.
